Chapter Twelve

Three days…Three days I was in heat for…Normally for most wolfs it was much longer but apparently my body was different to most.

Those three days were the most agonising as I tried to distract myself at work with the others as they kept an eye on me.

Each day I kept trying to call my best friend too, wondering how she was and where they were. Were they alive? Were they safe?

Lena and a few of the others had gone in search for her and had found nothing yet and it was making the rage in my heart grow each day.

Nothing was calming it as Craig wasn’t even by my side to calm me.

“Are those cakes done yet?” Vance calls out as I’m icing a batch of cakes that we needed desperately.

“Nearly done!” I shout.

I finish the last of the icing as I look at the cupcakes, all with love themes as that’s all I could think about lately, my love for everyone around me as I lifted them and took them around to the cake display.

“They look great, but you realise it’s not valentines day right?” Vance chuckles.

“Oh shut up” I blush as I put the last of the cakes in.

That’s when I smell it, I smell his soft skin, his cologne, and his wolf as I turn on the spot, my eyes darting outside as I see Craig and the boys standing outside with huge grins on their faces.

“Go to him” Vance nods in his direction with a smile as I bolt out the café and straight into Craig’s arms.

“I missed you!” I cried in his arms.

“Shh, it’s ok. I’m here baby” He kisses my head, holding me tightly.

There was that familiar feeling of tingles and heat that radiated through our bodies as he lifted my chin and kissed me deeply.

“Worst three days ever” He groans into the kiss.

“Never again…I’m not leaving your side again” I answer.

“Good…But I’m glad you stayed away. I couldn’t have you regretting it if we had of mated” He sighs.

“She didn’t stay away mate, don’t you remember?” Daniel raises a brow.

“What…I…When?” He looks confused.

“Day one, she bolted to the house, me and her had a huge fight outside…” Daniel says as I grimace.

“If you hurt her” Craig growls at him. Daniel backs up, hands up in surrender as I get between them.

“No! Baby, he didn’t, I hurt him…I’m still sorry for that” I sigh as he shrugs it off.

“No biggie” He answers with a smile.

“Why don’t I remember you coming over?” Craig sighs.

“Because you were too involved in your wolf trying to bone her” David laughs.

“Enough twin” Daniel smacks his arm.

“Do you remember much from that day?” I ask.

“I…Bits and pieces…”

“Why didn’t you tell us?!” Daniel shouts at him.

“Because I thought if anything important happened you’d tell me!”

“So, do you remember what happened in the woods? When you pounced on me?” I asked as he whirls around to me.

“I…did…What?!” He growls.

“Maybe we should take this somewhere else so we can’t be overheard” David murmurs as people go past us.

“Let’s go up to the flat” I nod as I take Craig’s hand in mine as we head indoors and upstairs.

Before I close the door to the stairs someone clears their throat as I look back and see Elise sat alone at a table with a smirk on her face as she gazes towards me with a cup of coffee.

“Baby?” Craig calls from the stairs.

“Boys, I’ll be up in a moment, Daniel start explaining what happened” I state as Daniel nods slowly, looking at me with a concerned look.

“Baby, what is it?” Craig says his hand in mine.

“Just a blast from the past…Please go upstairs, Vance, Pauline and Tony are down here. I’m safe” I kiss his lips as his eyes scour the café.

“Who?” He asks.

“Upstairs, NOW” I growl in order as he stares in shock before nodding, his eyes showing he was hurt.

“Hurry” He sighs, kissing my lips once more before walking up the stairs with the boys as I chuck them my keys.

I close the door and head towards Elise.

Tony gives me a look from the kitchen as Pauline and Vance seem to not have noticed my change in mood.

“What are you doing here Elise?” I snap as I sit in the seat opposite her.

“You left the group home, I’m just doing my job, checking up on you” She smirks.

“Bullshit, you know I was kicked out. Now…Why are you really here?”

“Stay calm and we won’t hurt them” She smirks as she passes an envelope towards me as I rip it open and see a photo of Carla and her parents tied up and scared in a dark and damp basement.

“What have you done?” I growl quietly, the rage in my heart growing.

“I did nothing sweetheart you can thank Sebastian and Thomas for this. Now, they will be returned home, but on one condition” She smirks.

“What do you want?”

“You leave here, leave the pack and come with us” She smiles evilly.

“Why? Why would I do that?”

“If you don’t they will die and so will everyone you love. Your vampire in the kitchen, your little witch, all your lovely werewolves…None of them can hear us right now, I’ve got my little buddy outside blocking them with his powers. You see, just outside” She points towards the path outside as I notice Sebastian as he smirks and waves.

“What are you?” I growl.

She smiles and as her smile grows her teeth extend…Vampire.

“Why do you want me so bad? Is it to do with this stupid prophecy?” I snap.

“You will help us destroy the hunters and save our kind from extinction. We are the superior race on this world, humans have outrun their time here. It’s time for us to take over. You are powerful Serena, you feel that bubble of rage inside you, we helped you build your power through that rage, your family want you to push it back, they want you safe and sound in their little bubble. You could be a true leader with us Serena” Elise says.

I felt the rage inside me build, she was egging me on, and it was taking everything I could not to shift right this second.

“You think I would help any of you, after everything THEY did to me!” I point angrily to Sebastian.

“That was something that had to be sacrificed, we had to push you to breaking point, otherwise you would not be where you are today, you are stronger for having been through all of it. We helped you become the wolf you are today. How many humans have hurt you? How many have tried to beat you, use you, break you down? Humans have done it, not the supernatural. Humans have taken your parents, not the supernatural, HUMANS are the reason we are threatened!” Elise snaps as her eyes turn red.

“Oh look it’s the orphan” Lyndsey strolled into the café as soon as Elise had said this, and my heart seemed to snap.

“What the fuck did you call me?” I growl out as Elise turns in her chair smirking as she watches the scene unfold.

“Orphan, nothing but a waste of space, I don’t know why they keep you here” Lyndsey smirks.

I grab her by the hair as she shrieks in pain as the customers go silent.

I felt power ebb in the café as Sebastian must have dropped the block.

“SERENA NO!” Vance shouts out to me as I drag her outside, kicking her to the curb before punching her over and over in the jaw.

“Fucking bitch!” Lyndsey shouts as she tries to punch back but Tony is suddenly between us.

“Get upstairs NOW!” He snarls at me.

“Serena, they want you home, best go” Elise stands outside watching.

“Who the fuck are you?” Tony snarls at her.

“Just her social worker” She laughs.

I was breathing heavily, rage flooding my body. My eyes dart to Sebastian as his hands move and I feel the block once more.

“I need time” I growl at her.

“You have…Three days…You know my number…” She smiles.

“If they are harmed I will kill you!” I growl.

“Nothing will happen to your precious friends” She smiles before she and Sebastian both disappear.

“What the fuck was that? I couldn’t hear what you were saying” Tony snarls out at me.

“Doesn’t matter” I snap.

“Get off of me uncle!” Lyndsey shoves Tony as she screams in frustration.

“Go home Lyndsey” Tony snaps as she looks at him fearfully and rushes off, her face covered in bruises which were beginning to form, blood dripping from her lip.

“What the fuck was that Serena?!” Tony shouts in my face again.

“Oops, I forgot” I hear Sebastian pop up again behind me as he clicks his fingers, Tony’s eyes glaze over and I feel the magic spread into the café.

“What did you do?!” I shout.

“They will forget everything from the last few minutes. Best get him back inside. I hope to see you soon little wolf” He winks and disappears again.

“Shit” I growl as I take Tony’s hand as I drag him into the kitchen, everything was still as I notice everyone’s eyes were the same.

Why was I considering this? Why was I leading Tony back to the kitchen as if nothing happened?

Elise was right that most of the people who had hurt me were human, that I was being kept in the darkness by my family of who I really was.

“Oh…Serena…What are you doing in here? I thought you were going upstairs…” Tony suddenly perks up and the café gets louder once more.

“I was just coming to check on you, you looked a little spaced out” I murmur.

“Oh…Uh…Yeah, god, don’t know what happened there…Anyway…Why is there blood on your hands?” He must have smelt it.

“Oh, I just whacked it by accident. It’s fine” I lie as he eyed me warily.

“Right…Ok…Go on, your boy will be worried” Tony nods to the door as I try to give him a genuine smile as I nod and walk off.

I walk up the stairs slowly as I hear the boys talking slowly about what had happened a few days ago. I could feel Craig’s emotions were heightened.

I walked in and quickly went to the bathroom before anyone stopped me and washed the blood off my hands.

“Baby? You ok?” Craig knocks on the door as I open it slowly and put on a smile.

“Yeah, sorry” I peck his lips.

He kisses me hard as our arms go around each other, he pushes me back into the bathroom and closes the door, picking me up and placing me on the edge of the sink as he stands between my legs as our bodies grow heated.

“Craig...” I moan.

“I need you now” He growls lustfully as his hands begin to take off my trousers and pulls down his own in haste as he plunges into me deep as I cry out his name.

Harder and harder he thrusts as I scream out his name, completely forgetting the boys currently sat on my sofa having to listen to us going at it in the bathroom.

I kiss and nip at his mark on his neck as he growls at me dominantly as I moan.

“I missed you” I moan as we kiss deeply, our tongues exploring each other’s mouths as we orgasmed together.

“I missed you too baby, so much” he kisses my mark as my pulse races. My eyes dart to his own as I smirk.

How could I think of going with Elise and the others…How could I part from him? But what about Carla and her family…I had to help them…Ah fuck…

“I love you too” I kiss him.

“We better go back to the boys…” He smirks cockily as I blush.

“Oh god…they will have heard all that”

He takes my hand with a wink as he leads me out the door.

“You two are sickening…” Daniel growls playfully as Craig chuckles.

“Can we get on with telling you what happened the other day? We never finished” David rolls his eyes.

“What did you get to?” I ask as Craig sits me on his lap.

“Sebastian turning up” Daniel grumbles.

“Oh great…” I roll my eyes as Daniel continues to describe everything as I bite my lip as I feel the rage in Craig. I place my hand against his mark as I focus on taking his rage as he began to calm down.

“How did you do that?” He looks at me with wide eyes.

“Do what?” David asks.

“I took his anger from him” I said with gritted teeth as it joined my own anger.

“Serena you can’t keep doing that!” Daniel snaps.

“Why not?!” I growl angrily.

“That! That is why! If you keep taking his anger and putting it inside you, you will snap!” He says.

“Can you send it back?” David asks.

“I don’t know”

“Try, I can’t bare thinking that you are baring your own anger over this and mine too” Craig says.

“I can deal with it” I growl.

My phone rings as I grab it quickly answering it with a growl.

“What?!” I growl.

“WOAH! Cupcake, what’s the matter?” Lucien says in shock at my angry voice.

“Never mind, what do you want?” I growl.

“I was seeing how you were…Maybe I should come over instead…” He sighs.

Craig jumps up and takes the phone from me before I can make the situation worse as he explains what I had done, taking his anger from him.

I begin pacing in the room as the boys just watch me while Craig looks at me with worry as he talks to Lucien.

“Maybe we should take her for a run…” David mumbles to his twin.

“Yeah, good idea. Craig? Pack run?” Daniel calls out to Craig as he nods and let’s Lucien in on the run.

Soon enough we are out the back in the trees as we shift into our wolf forms.

The run was helping get rid of the rage in my heart, but I could still feel it there as we joined with Lucien and the rest of the pack.

Lucien let me lead the run as everyone followed behind me as we raced around the field and woods.

That was until I smelt blood and stood growling in warning as the other wolves sniffed the air.

“Find the source!” I growl as they disperse looking for the cause of the blood as I darted through the tress.

I howl as I find a pool of blood on the ground near a small lake.

“What did you find?” Lucien asks as he sniffs at the ground.

“Blood…” I murmur as I look out into the lake.

I dive into the lake as I swim quickly, finding a body in the middle of the lake as I drag it back to the shore where everyone was now crowding around.

“Who is it?” Daniel asks as I nudge over the body.

“LENA!!” Lucien shouts as he shifts and kneels down by her side as he picks her up in his arms.

“This is work of a hunter” One of the other wolves growls as I notice the cuts on her skin and a dart in her neck.

“Lucien, we need to get back to the house” Craig growls as my eyes are surveying the horizon across the lake as I spot movement.

“RUN!” I growl as Lucien shifts and carries Lena’s body as all the wolves run as a pack towards the house as I stay behind them, watching their tails.

We were being shot at by some sort of dart gun as it missed us by inches as I heard the rumble of motorbikes riding through the woods as I circled back, jumping over logs as I swept a hunter off his bike, tearing him apart before moving onto the next.

I was knocked away by one with a large bat as he knocked me to the ground, but I was still quicker as I ripped the bat from him, smashing it with my teeth before ripping his head clean off his shoulders.

I howled as I took down the fifth and final one, exhausted, bruised and battered as I limped around.

“They killed one of your pack, huh? Humans, they hunt us day and night, they want to kill everyone you love…How do you feel about that Serena? You should join our fight little wolf” I whirl around to see Sebastian’s cruel smirk as he waves and disappears once again.

I whimper in pain as I limp towards the pack house.

“SERENA!” Craig shouts as he bounds up to me as he and Daniel take a side each, propping me up.

“I’m ok” I murmur as I shift back into human form as I wince at the pain in my side.

“Get me the med kit!” Daniel shouts as we get indoors.

“I’m fine!” I growl.

“No you’re not, your wound is that from a hunters blade, it won’t heal naturally” Daniel growls back.

David chucks him the med kit as he gets out a bottle of some bright pink liquid as he takes a needled syringe and fills it.

“Please tell me you don’t have to inject that…” I groan.

“Sorry Serena, this is going to hurt like fuck” Daniel sighs and then plunges it into the wound as I scream out, Craig holds me tight before I nearly punch Daniel hard.

“Mother fucker!” I cry out angrily.

“How many were there?” Lucien walks up to us as I see the hurt in his eyes from losing one of the pack, I could see it in all their eyes, but his, it was deeper.

“Five…All dead” I growl out as he nods.

“Boys! Gather the bodies and burn them!” He growls as most of the pack nod and head out.

“I’m sorry about Lena, Lucien” I mumble, tears falling from my eyes from both the pain of my wound and of losing her.

“She was like a daughter to me…I found her, lost as a pup, her family were torn to shreds by a group of vampires…we took her in, and she became the most talented little wolf I knew. She was strong, she was funny, she reminded me of you…” Lucien murmurs, hurt deep in his eyes.

“They’ll pay for this Lucien, I swear”

“No…I won’t risk anyone else…We lay low from now on…” Lucien says as I look at him in disbelief.

“What?! You don’t want revenge?! You don’t want to see them pay for what they did!” I growl out as I feel the familiar rage inside me.

“Calm down baby” Craig murmurs in my ear.

“NO, you guys just want to lay low and not take the fight to them! How is this living if every moment we have to watch our backs for someone to kill us! I will not let more humans take hold of me!” I growl as they look at me in shock.

“Not all humans are the same Serena” Daniel says.

“All the ones I’ve met have been…” I snap.

“Carla isn’t is she?” David snaps back.

“No…She…She helped me when no one else did. But that seems to be a very rare trait”

“Humans are kind, just some are plagued with inhumane thoughts. It doesn’t make it right but there are good people out there…Hunters can change too…Look at Vance…” Lucien says.

“Hunters took my parents…Hunters killed Lena…HUNTERS tried to kill us! If you guys won’t help me I’ll do this myself” I snap as I begin to walk out the house, getting out my phone and messaging Elise to come get me.

“What?! What are you doing?!” Craig shouts as he grabs my arm turning me around.

“You know I love you right?”

“Yes Serena, I love you too. But what are you doing?” He says in a panic as I kiss him softly before running out the house as I hear a click of fingers.

“The best thing I can do…Take the hunters down with people who want the same thing” I sigh as they all run out to try and get to me.

“Elise is waiting little wolf” Sebastian grins at me by my side.

“NO! Serena!” Craig shouts as they all come running.

“I love you, I’m sorry” I murmur before Sebastian grabs my arm and we’re gone in a flash.

I can feel the pain in my heart as I left Craig as he calls for me to come back.
