Chapter 37 

Yup that’s right, she had reacted to him in the way she had never done to any man, not that she had lots of experience with ‘em though But it would do her a real lot of good if they kept things professional between them, after all this was a business contract to them. Keeping things formal and not trying to enjoy it like a real marriage would leave her unscathed at the end of everything 

He frowned” Carla? What’s wrong? You have been zoning out in the last few hours, why?” She shook her head in answer and he sighed, not taking well to 

her lack of communication. 

*Do you regret what we did?” He asked in a very low and cautious tone. 

Again, she shook her head “Not at all, I signed up for this, remember?” 

He breathed a sigh of relief but it was short lived as the meaning of her words sank in properly 

He frowned slightly “So are you saying you would have regretted it if we were not bound by a contract? We made love because of the contract and not because of US?” He placed emphasis on the last word. 

She shrugged “That’s why we’re here, isn’t it? Not to have feelings for each other but to make a baby and go our separate ways” 

He looked at her like he couldn’t believe she was actually saying all that to him. She saw a pained expression flashed through his eyes but it went quickly. 

“Really?” He asked, sitting back on his chair as he assessed her. 

She felt naked under his probing stare but nodded nonetheless “Yes, I just hope I’m pregnant this time so we won’t have to go through this again 

He laughed scornfully” You call our lovemaking THIS** 

She put her hands up to stop him from overthinking things Liam, that’s not what …” 

But he cut her off “Oh I understand you perfectly fine, Carla. You wish to keep things formal between us even though that’s not what you really feel” 

She frowned” Whatever could you mean by that?” 

*Don’t ask me, Carla I’m leaving for work, enjoy your time alone, wife “He said and stood up but Carla stopped him before he could make it to the door. 

*Wait! You wanna leave me here all by myself? You know I don’t know my way around and besides, what will people say when you show up the day after your wedding? I bet you would like some headline like Trouble in paradise so soon? You’d like that, wouldn’t you?” She finally exhaled an exhausted breath after saying all that 

His eyes hardened “Let go of me Carla, I don’t care, do you?” And he gave her a mocking smile. 

She stepped back immediately, it was as if he had given her a physical punch by his rejection. His response was like a verbal blow to her and her eyes welled up with tears in no time. 

*Okay, go do whatever you want, you were not always considerate of people’s feelings so I shouldn’t be surprised “With that said, she turned and went back into the bathroom, leaving Liam ogling her plump ass. 

God, why couldn’t she just make things easy for both of them? He had an almost uncontrollable urge to go after her, cuddle and tell her everything would be fine then carry her to their matrimonial bed and make slow, passionate love to her. 

* Urghh * He groaned, feeling pain on his bulge Damn, he couldn’t go out like this, he had to make his little member calm down before going out. But then, he didn’t want to stay. He feared staying in the same house with her would only soften his resolve if he set eyes on her. How could she say it so blatantly that she didn’t feel anything?? Geez, that was going far. He heard the lock of the bathroom door opened and he took to his heels in a rather ridiculous way. Anything was better than coming face to face with her at this moment. 

Deciding not to go to his company to save her face, he put a call to Alex who picked on the second ring. 

*Damnit man, don’t you know when to call? Alex groaned, sounding sleepy 

Liam snorted in answer, refusing a verbal fight so early in the morning “Where are you?” 

“Dumbass, can’t you guess from my voice?” Came Alex’s reply. 

Liam ignored him “So you’re home, right? I’m on my way” 

“Wait! Why?” Alex shouted, sounding fully awake now. 

“Not something to say on the phone, idiot “Liam replied harshly 

“Whoa, calm down, boy. Trouble in paradise so soon? Alex said, back to his teasing self. 

Liam closed his eyes, fighting for peace when all he wanted to do was to punch the idiot’s guts out for stating the obvious. Thank goodness he thought of going to his friend’s place before going to work because that’s the look he would receive from his employees if he went to work right away. The news must have reached them by now that he was wedded and it wouldn’t bade well for Carla in the nearest future as speculations would start rising That, and the nosy reporters. Despite their little fight, he still cared about her and wouldn’t do anything to tarnish her image.

Liam heaved a sigh and started the ignition. He got to Alex’s place within some minutes. 

*Hey darling, a good morning to you too Alex said teasingly when Liam didn’t utter a word and he just grunted to the greeting. 

*Want some brandy?” Alex spoke up again and Liam glared at him. 

Brandy this early in the morning? No idiot” He replied and popped his hand at the back of his head, exhaling a small sigh of contentment. 

*So what’s up?” Alex asked, going straight to the point. 

I love her “Liam blurted out, making Alex’s eyes widened in exaggerated shock. 

*I’ll rephrase that, I don’t love her “Liam said, calmly this time.
