Chapter 10

Frances sat in her room, surrounded by the quietude of her thoughts. her room, painted in a light shade of grey adding to the ambience. The gentle creak of the door announced someone’s entrance. Frances lifts her eyes towards the door only to see Blake walk into the room, her eyebrows furrowed deeply as she looks at Frances. She shut the door behind her, arms wrapped around her chest.

“Why are you so gloomy today? You’ve barely been out all day.” Blake asks, walking towards her and sits beside her. Frances sighed, running her hands through her soft blonde hair.

“He found his mate.” She declared.

Blake stared at her, unmoving and unbelieving. She stared at Frances like she’d grown two heads. “Be for real. What’s the problem, really?” She asked and Frances sighed again this time standing up from the bed and began to pace around the room restlessly.

“I’m serious, Blake. Thorne found his mate.” She says, something breaking inside of her as she said it. The words were heavy in her heart and now that she even uttered them, they were more heavier.

Blake sprang up from the bed, her eyes wide and full of doubt. “Is- Are you joking? How is that even possible? How can-“She stops herself, dragging her hand over her face. This has to be a joke.

“How do you know he found his mate? Forgive me for saying but this sounds preposterous. He’s a nomad. He cannot have a mate. He offended the moon goddess and that is his punishment. We all know that so how does he suddenly have a mate? Are you sure you aren’t confused?” Blake says and for a brief second Frances wanted to hope she truly heard wrong. She wanted to believe she was wrong and misheard them but it was impossible, not when Thorne’s voice kept echoing in her head over and over again

“It’s her. My mate is her. Natalie.” Frances had been outside his door, waiting to go in when she heard it. It felt like a rough slap to her face the moment the words left his l*ps. She desperately wanted to deny what she heard.

“I am not confused. I heard him say it with his very own mouth. He found his mate and that too after so many years. Do you realize how f**king crazy this is? I’ve waited patiently  sᴇaʀᴄh thᴇ Findɴovel.ɴet website on Gøøglᴇ to access chapters of novels early and in the highest quality.

years, I’ve watched him f**k every bimbo he could lay his hands on. I’ve watched him all through everything, waiting for my turn so patiently. I’ve been so patient and good. I’ve waited for so damn long, I’ve rejected everything to be with him, and now that I’ve finally gotten him with me. This springs up. Why didn’t he meet his mate a year ago? Decades ago

“I was okay with him being a nomad. I was going to be his chosen mate regardless. I would sacrifice my life for him and yet..” a tear trickled down her cheeks. She wiped it harshly, swallowing the lump in her throat. “I didn’t wait all these years and got this damn ring just for it to sl*p off my fingers so quick.”

“I too deserve some happiness, don’t you think?” She barks out, desperately trying to cling to a piece of stability. She desperately wanted to go back to the time she didn’t know. The time she didn’t hear him talk about it, now, it’s the only thing she can think of. She looked at Blake, her eyes red and not from the stupid tear that fell to her cheeks but from anger. Angry at Thorne, Natalie, and even more the moon goddess.

“Frances, are you- are you sure you heard him right? It’s impossible for him to suddenly have a mate after all of this while. After so many years.” This doesn’t meet Frances well, she snaps her face at Blake, her eyes red and not from the few tears that fell down her cheeks. She stared at her like she’d grown three extra heads.

“I know what I heard, Blake. I didn’t just hear him talk about it but I also saw his mate. I saw her.” Frances spat out, remembering how she approached the door only to see a slave scamper out of there on her heels without looking back, oblivious to Frances. She had found it offensive back then and was going to tell Thorne about it. Not until she heard him utter those words. Those words that should’ve never left his l*ps.

Blake’s

eyes widen dramatically when Frances says she has seen the woman. The woman the moon goddess chose as Thorne’s mate. She swallowed thickly, taking a step closer to Frances. She tilted her head sideways, watching Frances carefully.

“W–Who is she?Blake asked and Frances halted. Her hands folded into a tight fist, eyes hardening with every second that went by, the woman’s face coming to her mind. Her eyebrows quirked up involuntarily, her jaw hardening.

Frances’s voice dripped with contempt as she uttered, “His new slave.” The mere sight of the woman sent ripples of anger through her veins. “Do you know how hard I’ve worked for Thorne, Blake? I did everything possible to get him right here with me and now, this. Determination burned in her eyes; she had come too far to fail now. Not even the moon goddess could thwart her, and if she dared to intervene, Frances vowed to rid herself of the moon goddess, the new mate, and anyone daring to cross her path.

Chapter 10

Natalie sat on the wooden chair, her eyes dating around the rather spooky house. She had been instructed to come to the healer’s house every Monday and Thursday for sessions. Natalie had wondered why the Lycan king would go to such lengths for her yet she couldn’t come up with anything tangible.

“You’ve arrived.” The middle–aged woman says, walking j to the living room with a large book and glasses perched on her nose. Natalie flinched at the intrusion, alarmed, jumping

  1. up.

“I’m sorry.” She says immediately. The woman halts in her steps, looking at her intensely and then she looks away like she wasn’t just biting holes to her head. “What are you sorry for exactly? You didn’t do anything wrong.” She replied, waving at Natalie to sit again.

Natalie swallows thickly. She didn’t usually apologize at every single thing in the past but now.. things were different. She’s no longer the Natalie from before.

“We only have two hours together so let’s start, shall we?” The woman asked, dragging another wooden chair towards Natalie and sits right in front of her. She looked Natalie dead in the eyes before speaking. “Talk.” She spat out, confusing the other even more.

“Your soul is heavy and the only way we can start is when you talk. You have to lessen the guilt inside of you. Whatever it is your feeling has to go. So, talk.” She says again.

Natalie shook her head carefully. “I- I don’t have anything to talk about.” She replied slowly and the woman nodded.

“That’s fine too. We still have a long way to go.” She leaned back against the chair, removing the glasses she had on.

“Tell me, what do you know of your family heritage?” She asked suddenly and Natalie grew even more confused, eyebrows furrowed.

“I Um- I don’t know anything about my family heritage.” She replied. Her father and mother died years back according to her grandmother and two years after her mating ceremony with Luther, her grandmother died too.

“You’re all alone?” She asked, her voice tilted up only slightly. Natalie nodded slowly, not able to understand what the woman herself was driving at. The woman nods and stands up.

“That’s all for today. You aren’t prepared yet but we will try again on Thursday.” She says.

“That’s all?Natalie asked, even more confused by how short it was. The woman nodded and began walking the same way she had come in. She stops at the door, turning to look at

Natalie again.

“You don’t have the will. You need to want your wolf back, otherwise, this treatment is useless.” She says and walks away, her words echoing in Natalie’s head.
