Chapter

The betrayed Luna-

Natalie steps into the room, her senses heightened even though nothing has happened yet. She looked around the room and didn’t see anyone. The room was vacant and she sighed in relief, shutting the door close. She immediately bent down, starting to search for it. She had lost the ring.

The one Luther had given to her on her mating ceremony. How has she kept it so well hidden with her? She has no idea. She had even managed to hold onto the tiny silver ring till she got to Darkwater pack but now, it’s missing. Her best bet is this room. The same one they were all kept in.

The door opens suddenly and she freezes, slowly standing up and praying with everything she’s got in her, praying to all the gods that existed for it not to be a pack member. The rules of the pack still hammering hard in her mind. Death is the penalty.

“Oh, it’s you.” The familiar voice of Katherine boomed through the tiny walls of the room. Natalie turned, sighing in relief when she saw Katherine standing before her, her eyes wide with curiosity, staring at Natalie like she held the answers to the world problem in her hands.

“I’ll leave now.” Natalie squeaks out, Katherine is quick to stop her. “No, wait. Why- why are you here? Should you be waking about after what Madam Chrissy said today?” the words were uttered so lowly a normal human wouldn’t have heard her speak.

Natalie thinks back to how she had woken up in that room, Katherine had pretended not to hear when the healer spoke about her lost wolf and her miscarriage but now… Katherine looks at her with slight determination in her eyes. “I was worried. I’ve been worried.” She finally lets out.

Natalie reeled back in shock, she couldn’t for the life of her understand why Katherine would be worried about her. She shook her head, not wanting to dwell on her words.

“We have to stick together…” she says at the end and Natalie hums distractedly.

“You can walk freely? Alpha Thorne must be really generous. How is he? Is he really as scary as we say he is? I think he is though. His eyes freak me out so bad but tell me, what do think? You’ve spent some hours with him so you should know.” Katherine rushes out. Natalie shook her head, perplexed and getting glimpses of the Katherine who spoke to her while they were being dragged into this place. She couldn’t tell Katherine she had snuck out

to look for a ring.

“Don’t answer those questions, I can be so stupid at times. Of course, you can’t answer

hose. What were you searching for though?” She asked, looking at where Natalie had been kneeling.

Umm.. just something. I didn’t find it so I’ll leave.” She says but is stopped for the second

time.

“Is it a ring?” Katherine says, stopping her in her tracks. She takes out the now dull–looking ring from her pocket and places it on her palm. “I saw this an hour ago and I thought Anna might be the owner but I didn’t see her search for anything so I’m guessing this is yours?” She asked and Natalie nodded, taking the ring into her fingers.

“Thank you.” She replied.

“Don’t you think that maybe you should..” Katherine doesn’t get to complete her words as the door is kicked open. Natalie freezes again, her eyes wide and filled with panic on seeing who stood right by the door, looking every bit angry. The man Natalie had come to know as the beta stood in his tall form, glaring at a trembling Natalie.

She and Katherine are quick to bow their heads in respect as the man stalks into the room, his scent bitter and filled with disgust. It made Natalie want to puke, the bitterness of his scent reminding her of Eleanor’s. She swallows hard when the man grabs her by the arm rather harshly.

“What do you think you’re doing here?” He snarls at her, his fingernails digging into the supple of her flesh. Natalie’s face heats up, shame coursing through her veins.

“I-”

Is this how you behaved from the pack you were bought? Are you dumb or are you pretending to be one? Do you have a death wish for f**ks sake!” He growls right to her face.

Natalie whimpered, swallowing the lump in her throat as she was dragged out of the room by the arm. She doesn’t miss the concern etched on Katherine’s face as she’s dragged out. Two other men stood by the door, they seemed to be with the beta.

Natalie’s eyes brimmed with unshed tears as she was dragged out of the slave quarters. She should’ve waited before going to see eh for that ring. She shouldn’t have left that way thinking no one would notice. Does she truly have a death wish?

Natalie Is dragged all through to the main pack house, people parting in shock and fear as

cried internally, she’s barely lasted a whole day in this pack, and yet she had managed to sentence herself, that too so stupidly. She’s fallen into a pit she cannot drag herself out of

She’s dragged to Thorne’s quarters and pushed to the ground harshly. Natalie whimpers, kneeling down while fear coursed through her veins. Thorne stood by the window, watching.

“Here. I found her. She was with another slave in the slave quarters and forgot her duty.”

The beta spat out.

Natalie looks up at the Lycan king, swallowing hard. “I- I’m sorry my king. I- I was just going to see her for a brief second. I didn’t mean to.” Natalie sobbed out, feeling on the edge. She didn’t have her wolf to calm her down.

“I’m so sorry, please forgive me. I’ll never make the same mistake. I- I’ll be good. Please forgive me.” At this point, she’s so used to begging to live, that the words come freely.

Thorne narrows his eyes, walking towards her, his tongue darts out to lick his l*ps. He stops right in front of her. “Don’t you know what the rules state?” He asks and she nods in panic.

She knows. She’s just so stupid she still won’t ahead to look for the damn ring.

I- I know.” She stammers.

“Then why should I make an exception of you? Give me a good reason why.” He asks, watching the way the wheels in her head run about, trying to come up with something. The thing is, there’s no good reason. She erred just like everyone else has and she should be punished. She knew this and she sobbed even more.  sᴇaʀᴄh thᴇ (ꜰind)ɴʘvel.nᴇt website on Gøøglᴇ to access chapters of novels early and in the highest quality.

“I-” she trailed off, unable to come up with anything tangible.

“Give me the permission to discipline her,” Nathan asks him.

Thorne ignores him, bending to match her height, he looks at her right in the eye, her hazel eyes brimming with tears. “You can’t come up with anything good?” He asked, resisting the urge to run his fingers along her chin.

“I’m sorry.” Natalie croaks out, unable to say anything else.

Thorne nods and stands up. “You can leave.” He says simply. Natalie gaped at him, unbelieving yet doesn’t want to wait to have him change his mind. She’s quick to get on her feet and practically runs out of there.

Nathan stood still, not just confused but extremely shocked. “Why did you do that?” He asked. Thorne looks at him, eyebrows quirked up.

“Do what?” He asks casually.

“Let her go without teaching her a lesson. You don’t do that. Infarct, you don’t send out all the guards to go search for a slave.” He spat out angrily.

Thorne quirks an eyebrow up at his tone “Nathan..” he cautions. The beta heaves deeply and lowers his head.

“I’m sorry but you don’t do things like this. You don’t act like this. I need to know why.”

Thorne looks at him for a brief second and looks away. “You don’t need to know anything.” He spat out, suddenly growing angry. He doesn’t have to explain himself to anyb*dy.

“You-” Nathan sighs internally, running his fingers through his hair frustratedly.

“Thorne, you can tell me what’s going on. You don’t act like this and you can’t tell me even if you don’t see it. It’s-” he paused and sighed. “You can tell me.” He says again.

Thorne looks at him for a moment longer. He walks back to the chair and grabs the cup of wine he had there earlier before they walk in, gulping the entire thing in a go. He drops the cup and looks at Nathan.

“I found my mate.” This is the first time he is admitting it. The first time he’s saying it out loud.

“It’s her. My mate is her. Natalie.” He said. The two of them are oblivious to the third ear listening to their conversation,
