The man’s gaze made Daisy feel threatened, she wanted to back away, but she was already backed against the wall. 

Though scared, Daisy gathered her courage, clenching her fists, “Mr. Wilton, I’m Frances’ fiancée, soon to be a part of the Boswell family. I know you’re worried about Francés’ health, but….” She wasn’t sent by Mina. 

She was interrupted by the man before she could finish her sentence. “If not for you, why would my brother be in the hospital?” 

“I…” Daisy trembled, “What does this have to do with me?” 

“Still playing innocent? What’s the point of playing dumb now? My brother is allergic to mango, yet you fed him a cake with mango in it, which caused him to go into shock. If his exposure was any higher, his life could have been in danger. He’s in the hospital because of you. Daisy was startled, what? Frances was allergic to mango? Frances was in the hospital because of her?

“You didn’t know? That’s a laugh.” Wilton didn’t buy it. 

Tears welled in Daisy’s eyes. She hadn’t thought that she was the cause of this. If she hadn’t served the dessert, Frances wouldn’t have eaten it. The food that was usually brought up to the third floor was always checked by John, or made by John himself. This would never have happened. It was because she served it last night and John didn’t check it, and Frances trusted her.
