The Earth Shifter
Chapter Twenty-three

I woke up in the morning to a snowy weather. I walked through the empty streets that was filled with white snow.

Why were the streets empty? And why was it snowing?

I pumped into Tristan when I was walking. “I was looking for you.” I told him. “Is it normal to snow now?”

“No, we’re supposed to be in summer. Come on.” We walked back to the tent. Professor Cyril, Erik, Aaron and Lilly were now awake. I went to find Tristan before they woke up.

“What’s happening? Why is it snowing?” Lilly asked.

We were sitting in the guys’ tent. “The Earth started moving away from the sun.” Tristan offered an explanation.

“The whole world must be in chaos now.” He informed us.

“You sure about that?” Lilly asked and he nodded. Then all of them looked at me accusingly.

Now I’m the one responsible for all of this?

“That can’t be true.” I said shaking my head. Tristan sighed deeply and took us to his house and made us enter a room that had many devices mapping the Earth’s movement. It did stray from the orbit for a tiny bit, barely even noticeable.

“There has to be a sacrifice.” Someone I didn’t know who was sitting in the room told me.

I left the room and went to the shore. Sitting on the black sand I tried to decide if I should do it and die or not. I really don’t want to sacrifice my life for it but it’s snowing. Sᴇaʀ*ᴄh the Findɴovel.ɴet website on Gøøglᴇ to access chapters of novels early and in the highest quality.

“What should I do, Periwinkle?” I asked my baby penguin friend.

It’s a really tough decision.

I felt a pat on my shoulder and I looked up to see who. Aaron was standing there with a gentle smile on his face and his violet eyes held so much tenderness in them.

“How are you doing?” He asked me.

“What do you think?” I answered his question with another.

“I just figured that I should tell you something that maybe will help you decide.” He told me.

“Really? What’s that?” I knew that there was nothing to help me choose.

“I found out that I couldn’t only control oxygen I can also can combine the dissolved oxygen particles that exist under the water and make a full oxygen molecules that we’re able to breathe.” He explained. I gaped at him.

“You can do that?” He nodded. “Then you can breathe under water?” I asked wide eyed.

“Yes.” He told me.

“That’s amazing.” I smiled.

“It’s hard but I think I can help you drown the island.” Aaron looked at me waiting for my reaction.

“You mean, keep my oxygen supply when I’m under the water?” I asked.

“Yes.”

“That’s good, Thanks.” I said dryly biting my inner cheeks. When Aaron didn’t see me excited about the idea he sighed and looked at me.

“Look Amber, I know that it’s not easy for you to do something like this and I know that you don’t want to go into the water.

“But, you need to trust me with this. I won’t let you drown. I will help you.” He promised me. I looked for him only to search his eyes for the permission if I should believe him or not and his eyes were pouring with seriousness and trustiness

I know that I’m being childish but choosing to sacrifice your life for a stupid island isn’t something you decide every day.

I kept asking myself if I can trust Aaron with my life.

“So, you’re promising that you won’t let me drown and...” He cut me out.

“Will not leave you.” He promised firmly. I bit my lips nervously and looked at Periwinkle. My penguin friend was looking at me and I felt like he was begging me to do it.

“I’ll do it then.” I mumbled still looking at Periwinkle. Aaron patted Periwinkle’s head. He quickly shifted into a brown baby bear and jumped at Aaron. He laughed and hugged him tightly.
