Chapter 2 

It was not until some time later only did she find out from Michael’s former comrade–in–arms that her father had been tricked, and that was why Michael used that huge government project fund. 

It was because he was used by someone else that he took a bribe from that huge fund in question. 

In the end, he was reported before being removed from office. 

Not only that, all the clues as to the person who was behind the scene pointed to the Francois family, and her ex–husband, Marcellus. 

From that moment, hatred grew in every part of her body and was rooted in every inch of her bones. 

She could forgive him for having a new lover. She could even accept his heartlessness when he broke things off with her. On top of that, she could even lie to herself and tell herself that he didn’t know she was pregnant before he pushed her. 

However, she couldn’t forgive him for destroying and tearing apart her family. 

She couldn’t forgive him for what he did to her father, Michael, and the blissful family that she was proud of. 

She had made a scene and scolded him, but he responded by being even colder and more ruthless to her as he sneered and looked at her with contempt like the others. 

Everyone thought Aurelia was the daughter of a corrupted official and thought that Marcellus was a model citizen who obeyed the law, placing righteousness before family. 

Aurelia swore that she would prove to him, showing him that she could love and also hate just as well. 

She would also prove to everyone that Marcellus was a shameless and despicable person. 

He was a shameless man who betrayed his father–in–law to gain benefits and sustain himself. 

For more than ten years, she had been providing for him too. She had been working so hard. 

However, Marcellus was right. Aurelia was nothing without the title of the daughter of the chief deputy sheriff. 

Aurelia witnessed how all of her father’s friends who used to be kind–hearted and all the same people who called themselves. her best friends change overnight. Even all the official’s wives and daughters started staying away from her. 

Aurelia really felt that it was better for her to die than suffer such humiliation. 

If her mother hadn’t fallen ill and needed her care, she would have been unable to support the family like how she was supporting it now. 

She sold the only house left in the family and used the 2 million dollars of alimony when Marcellus divorced her to get by. 

Regardless of Marcellus‘ sarcasm and everyone’s doubts, she gritted her teeth and insisted on establishing the trading

“Ms. Swanson, why are you crying?” 

Scott frantically wiped the corners of her eyes in a panic but gently.

Scott had also never shown reluctance or any other intentions toward her, so Aurelia always thought that there was no problem. 

It was not until now that she saw the sincere and pure love in this 24–year–old boy’s eyes that she realized that she was 

wrong. 

Scott took everything seriously. 

Sometimes, when she thought about it, she would just want to give up, wishing that she would just die. 

“What exactly does Scott like about me?” Aurelia thought.

Aurelia could be all dolled up and smiled flatteringly to the people who could benefit her business. 

She could also show a sarcastic and indifferent face to the person she disdained, and she looked extremely mean when she 

did that.

Aurelia knew that Scott was committing a grave error with no way of turning back by falling in love with her. 

It was just like how she fell in love with Marcellus without reserve back then. 

Aurelia had already lost her heart and no longer believed in love, so she could never respond to Scott’s love. 

“Ms. Swanson, I’m sorry for falling in love with you.” 

Scott knew that his thoughts and secrets were now exposed before Aurelia when his clear eyes met with her shocked ones, and he no longer planned on hiding them. 

Instead, he continued seriously in a somewhat unconfident but firm voice. “I know I’m not worthy of you, but I really like you. I’ll treat you well. I can promise you this! You don’t have to accept me immediately. I just want you to give me an opportunity to take care of you! Can 1, Ms. Swanson?” 

“Scott, you…” 

Aurelia swallowed her saliva with difficulty, but she felt her throat becoming drier after doing that. A sniffling sensation came to her nose; she felt like crying. 

She thought, “How many years has it been since I’ve heard someone talking to me so carefully as if they want to protect me?” 

“Ms. Swanson, I know that I’m not good enough in all aspects, but I’ll work hard. I took a refresher course and got a master’s degree in law last month and an attorney qualification certificate. In the future, our company will no longer have to pay expensive fees just to hire that useless attorney!” 

He continued on. I also saved a little money. Although it’s not much, it’s enough to buy a small house. I’ll decorate it and make it a cozy home. So Aurelia’s last memory was Scott shouting in fear, “Get down!” 

After that, he hugged her tightly and protected her in his warm embrace, and even at her last moment, he was still hugging her, protecting her.
