Chapter 5~Running

Everybody followed behind him and I closed the door behind them.I ran around the house until I found a bookbag and a duffle bag.I filled the duffel bag up with stuff we’d need for sleeping and ran to the kitchen before filling the bookbag up with food and water.I turned around and froze when I noticed Peter leaning against the wall.

“Whatcha doing?” He asked smiling.My breath hitched in my throat and I slowly licked my lips.He took a step towards me as he watched my tongues movements.

“We need stuff that’ll last us for as long as we need to stay.” I said softly.I put the bag on my back and dropped the duffle bag as I bit my lip nervously.

“Mm.” He mumbled walking up to me.I stepped back only to bump into the fridge.He smirked as he gently took my face in my hands making me turn to pudding.He leaned his forehead on mine before gently pressing his lips against mine.I moaned softly as his lips moved slowly against mine.His lips felt like butter against mine and he tasted of everything sweet in the world.I slid one of my hands out of his hair letting it fall to the back of his neck and pulled him closer into me.He slid his hands down to my thighs and picked me up.I wrapped my legs around his waist and slowly ran my fingers through his hair.I moaned as he pressed me further into the fridge.He pecked my lips before making his way to my neck.I released a shaky breath as he kissed and sucked on my neck.He roughly pulled away from me and I frowned in confusion.He unwrapped my legs from around his waist and took a step away from me.

“Get out.” He growled.I blinked realizing what I just did and picked up the duffel bag before running out of the house as I tried to keep my tears in.

“Phoenix.” Hades said as I ran into him.He frowned as I looked down doing my best to keep my eyes off of him.I heard a scream of anger before the house blew up.I watched wideeyed as Peter slowly walked out of the house without a mark on him.Hades grabbed my hand and started running in a random direction.He ran up to the horses and untied them from the carriage before putting me on one and getting on the other.He clicked his tongue and both horses took off.I looked over my shoulder at Peter to see him calmly looking back at me.Hades came to a stop in front of the woods and climbed off of the horse before tying it to a tree.I did the same thing and took a deep breath attempting to swallow back the lump forming in my throat.

“What happened back there?” Hades asked softly.I shook my head asking-begging him not to do this.

“We were given a two minute head start-you were in there for 10.” He said crossing his arms over my chest.He started to say something else but cut himself off as he took me in.He shut his eyes tightly and cursed under his breath before pulling me into him.

“He kissed me and I kissed him back.” I sobbed burying my face in his shoulder.

“It’s okay.It wasn’t your fault.Lust isn’t exactly something you can fight.” He said softly.He rubbed my back soothingly until I had finished crying.He wiped the tears from my cheeks and gently kissed the top of my head.

“Your secret is safe with me.” He said smiling.He ran his fingers through my hair trying to fix it for me.He took my hand in his own before leading me further into the woods.We walked for a minute or two before we finally met up with the others.Everybody was sitting around a fire other than Jocelyn who was missing.She stepped out of the woods and smirked mischevously at me before taking a seat besides Kim.

“Where were you?” Mateo asked running up to me.I took a step back as he tried to wrap his arms around me in a hug.

“I was getting supplies.” I said keeping my eyes down.I held my hand out and he took the duffel bag before walking up to the others.He looked over his shoulder at me and I immediatly looked away not being able to look at him without feeling my heart being ripped out of my chest.The boys set up the tents while the girls sorted through the food and water and made rations.Hades stayed by my side the entire time as we watched over everybody.

“I’ll take first watch.” I said as soon as we finished.Mateo frowned but didn’t say anything in response.We finished eating and I stared a fire to make sure the others would be warm before I packed the food back up and hid the bookbag.

“Goodnight.” I said keeping my eyes down.

“Did I do something?” He asked taking a step towards me.My eyes filled with tears and I shook my head.

“No.” I said taking a step away from him.

“Then why can’t you look at me?” He asked as his voice cracked.My heart clenched and I took a deep breath.

“She can’t not after she almost slept with Mr.Hot-stuff back there.” Jocelyn said loud enough for everybody to hear.I tensed and slowly looked up at Mateo to see a hurt look on his face.

“Tell me she’s lying.” He pleaded.

“I-I can’t.” I whispered swallowing back tears.He chuckled humorlessly before walking away.Jocelyn winked at me before walking off.I turned around letting go of Hades’s hand and walked towards the edge of the forest before climbing into one of the trees giving me a look of the street.

“I’ll talk to him.” Hades said before walking off in the direction Mateo walked.

“I’m sorry about Jocelyn.” Kim said from the bottom of the tree.She took a deep breath and climbed the tree when she realized I wasn’t going to respond.

“I’m sorry we came along and messed everything up-I didn’t know that my-that Alex had a mate.If I knew I would’ve never showed up and I definitely wouldn’t have kissed him.As for Jocelyn she’s just over-protective of me and she thought what you said at dinner was a shot at me so all of this is her way of taking a shot back.” She said softly.

“I’m sorry for what I said.” I said turning my attention to her.

“There’s no need for you to be sorry.I don’t know what I would’ve done if the roles were reversed.” She said giving me a small smile.I returned it before turning my attention back to the road.

“Why-why did you do it?” She asked cautisouly.

“Why did I kiss him?” I asked turning my attention to her once again.

“Yeah-If you don’t mind me asking.” She said rapidly.

“I honestly don’t know.It felt like I was in a trance-a trance I didn’t want to end.” I answered honestly.

“That’s what being infected by lust is.It’s a trance that brings out your deepest desires.” Hades said catching my attention.

“Then why did he look shocked that we were kissing?” I asked softly.

“That’s something I’ve been trying to figure out.It’s like you were affecting him too but that’s impossible.” Hades said running his hand through his hair.

“Why is it impossible?” Kim asked when it was clear I wasn’t going to say anything.

“He’s lust.You can’t exactly affect lust.” Hades said bluntly.

“I can fly you know.” Peter said catching our attention.We looked up to see him floating above us.He made sure to look everywhere but at me.His eyes landed on Kim and he smiled.She gasped softly and brushed her hair behind her ear.I rolled my eyes and grabbed her before throwing her in Hades arms.Hades took off to warn the others while I jumped out of the tree.Peter drifted and landed on the ground in front of me.

“What am I going to do with you?” He asked smirking.My breath hitched in my throat and I closed my eyes tightly.

“Stop doing that please.” I whispered.He didn’t respond but I could hear him slowly walking up to me.He rested his forehead on mine and slowly released a breath.

“What am I going to do with you?” He asked again.I slowly opened my eyes and bit my bottom lip nervously.

“Please let me go.” I whimpered.My head screamed for my legs to move but they stayed exactly where they were.He slowly put his hands on my hips before placing his lips on mine.I moaned softly as he pulled me closer into him.I whimpered as he suddenly pulled away from me.

“What are you doing to me?” He whispered gently taking my face in his hands.My eyes caught movement from behind his head and my eyes locked on Mateo’s.I looked back at Peter and it was like he could sense the change in my mood.I kneed him before punching him in his face and running off.I could hear him chuckling from behind me but I didn’t stop to turn around.Mateo smiled proudly at me and took my hand in his before running off to where the others were.

“You shouldn’t have done that.” Peter growled from somewhere behind us.

“There’s a town over there.” Kim said no longer in Hades’s arms.I nodded my head and we all took off.Kim started to run towards a house and I shook my head before pointing towards a bar.
