The Last White Wolf
Chapter 2

We managed to arrive at the airport just-in-time. The goodbyes were sad, but like I told everyone again, I am coming back. I met all my new colleagues and the flight captain and co-captain of the Emirates flight. I settled in quickly and got up to speed with everything I need to do.

I enjoyed seeing and interacting with all the different people on the flight. The flight was almost 36 hours long, and in that time a made a few good friends. One of my co-workers, Kelly, got along well. Kelly is faired skinned and have long flamed red hair and green eyes. She is a bit bossy and very opinionated but is going to be a good caring friend. She helped me too find my place on the plane.

When we finally landed in Greece and helped all the passengers off and cleaned the plane, we headed to the hotel to get some much-needed rest. I was beyond tired. At least I was off for two days before we were off to Italy for four days and then back to Greece, I will then have a week off. The next two days were spent shopping and sight-seeing with Kelly. I loved seeing Greece. My dream came true. I didn’t mind working part of my job at all. I loved my job.

We went to Italy and, wow, my mind was blown, it’s so beautiful there. After spending four days in Italy, we flew back to Greece. We had a few flight crew meetings before we had our free time. I had seven days to myself. I can’t wait. I had a few things planned to do, one of them being, visiting the Foloi Forest, Peloponnese. I was planning an independent walking holiday through the forest. I went to bed early after dinner. I bought myself a hiking backpack, I had some clothes, underwear, make-up, toiletries, some snacks, water and my favourite book packed. Everything was set for tomorrow morning.

I was dreaming again of the charcoal wolf, running towards me, when suddenly I heard a beeping sound “BEEP! BEEP! BEEP!“, I sprung upright, realizing that it’s time to wake-up. For the past 4 months, I kept having the same dream over and over again. And it’s always exactly the same. Me standing on a cliff with a big dark grey wolf, running towards me and then I wake-up. My whole body was covered in cold sweat and I was trembling. I got out of the queen size bed and made myself some strong coffee.

The hotel Emirates book the flight crew in was fancy. Each room was beautifully decorated and had a queen-size bed, with white and cream linen and had a self-help kitchen area, with a kettle, fridge and a microwave, and your own personal bathroom.

I went to the bathroom the relive myself and took a hot shower. After I was clean, I brushed my teeth and started to apply light make-up and fixed my hair. I pulled my hair into a messy ponytail and got dressed in black shorts, a white t-shirt and my new hiking boots. I applied some of my favourite Alien perfume and got all my hiking stuff together. After I was done, I called for a Taxi to take me to the forest. I finished my coffee while I was waiting for a Taxi.

After 10 minutes the reception called me to inform me that my Taxi has arrived. I quickly grabbed my backpack and went to the lobby. The Taxi driver greeted me and helped me with my backpack. After a nice quiet 45-minute ride the Taxi arrived at the Foloi Forest. I paid the Taxi driver and got out of the car. It was amazing. The air smelled so clean and fresh.

I went to the hiking station and bought myself a map of the forest and more snacks and water. I quickly used the bathroom and started the hiking trail. It was a 6-hour hike to the camping site where I will be spending the night in a tent and sleeping bag, I have hired from the hiking station.

I enjoyed the calmness and the smell of the woods. I have always loved hiking alone; it relaxes me and leaves me with my thoughts. Back home, I have always gone for some group hikes on Table Mountain, but I mostly liked the hikes where I was alone. A followed the hiking trail deep into the woods, the birds in the trees were singing to the beginning of the new bright morning.

I was walking for about two hours when I decided to rest up a little and eat a snack. I took off my backpack and sat on a flat rock next to a small creak while eating a bacon and cheese sandwich I bought at the hiking station. The bacon tasted amazing. I love bacon. After eating and putting the wrapper in my bag, I went off making my way through the forest. After hiking for another 4 hours a finally made it to the camping site. Got my assigned tent and stored my stuff safely inside my tent.

The camp ranger, Bemus has informed me that dinner is at 5 pm and everyone gathers around the campfire. It was only 3 pm, so I took my book and found a nice quiet spot outside the camping area to read.

At 5 pm I went to the campfire area, I got myself a plate of warm food and juice. Everyone was seated around the fire; I found an open spot next to a young couple. The girl looked a bit older than me, with shoulder-length black hair and brown eyes and the guy had blonde hair and blue eye. I introduced myself to them. “Hi, I’m Thalia” “Hi Thalia,” the girl said “My name is Lizzy, and this is my fiancé Danny. Where you from?” Lizzy asked “Nice to meet you! I’m from South Africa and you?” “We are from New Jersey; wow I have never met someone from South Africa. Isn’t it hot there?” Danny said. I chuckled “Depends on where you live” and Lizzy laughed.

Someone cleared their throat, and everyone went silent. The camp ranger Bemus was standing up and everyone’s eyes were on him “Welcome all hikers” Bemus said “Trust all had a nice hiking experience so far. Tonight, you all will be entertained by Keelan. He will be telling you some myths and legends about the Foloi Forest. Trust all of you will enjoy it” Bemus said and turned back to his seat. Another man, much older than Bemus got up, he was attractive for his age, he had dark, almost black hair and dark eyes. Keelan stood up and started to tell his story. “Good evening everyone. Peloponnese is where your mythical journey begins. It is the land of the powerful 300 Spartans and the birthplace of the Olympic Games. It has ancient monuments, medieval castles and much more. And of course, the Greek gods. It is told that some of the god’s creations walk amongst these trees.” He continued. “Selene is the Greek goddess of the Moon. She is the daughter of the Titans Hyperion and Theia, and sister of the sun-god Helios, and Eos. She is the goddess of the dawn. She drives her moon chariot across the heavens. Selene was also known as the mother of the wolf people.” Keelan said.

“Centuries ago, Selene was walking through these woods and found a young man being attacked by a big bear. Out of nowhere a big white wolf attack the bear, saving the young man’s life. The white wolf killed the bear but was badly injured. The young man tried to save the wolf, but both their injuries were too severe for them to live. Selene felt amazed by their bravery and care for each other. She felt pity for the human and the wolf and made the decision to save them both, by combining their souls. Selene aggravated the gods by her creation and the gods cursed her creation to be slaved to the moon...” Keelan continued with the mythical story, but I was too tired and fighting to stay awake. I had another long hiking trip planned for tomorrow. I sneaked away from the campfire and placed my plate in the kitchen.

I went to the small bathroom and brushed my teeth and took a quick shower. It was amazing to take a shower in the forest. After my shower, I went to my tent and lied down in my sleeping bag. As soon as I felt the sleep was starting to take over, I heard a howl. Could it be? Is there wolfs in the forest? Is it safe to sleep? I thought while I drifted off into a deep sleep.
