Chapter 37

The trio chased after Chelsea while Leslie paled and opened her mouth to speak. However, they left one after another without waiting for her response.

Sebastian slammed the table. “Da mn it! Leslie, this is the consequence when you insist on marrying a divorced man! Don’t you see how they treat you?! I have to suffer such grievances in my old age!”

“Seb, why are you yelling?” Josephine lost her temper as well. “This is all happening because you didn’t discipline your daughter well. I shouldn’t have given you custody of her. Do you see the situation you put her In?!”

“You care about our daughter, don’t you? If you care so much, why do you date male models from your company? You travel abroad, but I never see you spending time with her. Now you’re blaming me?” Sebastian put Josephine back in the spotlight.

Leslie’s eyes reddened as she covered her ears. She did not want to hear such piercing and harsh arguments.

Those were the same arguments that accompanied her growing up. No one cared about her life.

Lisa frowned as she watched. She felt like an outsider and dared not intervene.

The couple argued for a few minutes, and Josephine’s mood reached its lowest point. “You’ve always been this way, Leslie. You never turn back until you hit a wall. I will no longer interfere with you and Christopher.

“You’ll only suffer if they continue like this. I’ll run my business and not consider their opinions. Are they even worth anything?” Immediately after, she left without eating.

“Tell Christopher he shouldn’t even consider stepping foot in our house if he doesn’t apologize in person,” Sebastian said before storming off.

The room was empty, with only Leslie and Lisa remaining. Even Lisa did not expect things to end this way, let alone Leslie.

“There’s no one else here, Leslie. You can cry if you want.” Lisa handed her a tissue. Sᴇaʀch Thᴇ ꜰindNʘvel.ɴet website on Gøøglᴇ to access chapters of novels early and in the highest quality.

“I won’t.” Leslie shook her head as her eyes teared up slightly. “Lisa, do you think I made a mistake?”

Lisa sighed with a tinge of regret. “Had I known this would happen, I would’ve sent you to live as a writer in the remote

mountains.”

Leslie was puzzled, but Lisa continued, “Do you remember that famous writer who spent two decades living off the grid? You should experience that too. It’s said to be a serene escape from all the chaos.”

Leslie giggled and lowered her gaze, “Chris’s parents treated me wonderfully when we first married. We had a good relationship when it was just the two of us, but I’m starting to wonder what happened to those times.”

“It’s elementary, don’t you think? Chelsea must be sowing discord,” Lisa said, “I suspect she ran out on purpose just now. If she leaves, the meeting between the two families is bound to collapse.”

Leslie frowned. “If that’s true, she’s pretty cu nning for a five-year-old.”

“It might not be her idea. Perhaps someone’s instigating her from behind the scenes,” Lisa suggested before asking, “Does Chelsea keep in touch with her mother?”
