Chapter 40

Chapter 45 

Selene got up immediately as she tried to get behind the tree. She was a little surprised as she tried to see who was spying on her. At first, she was a little scared but then, she realized who it was. 

“You! What are you doing?” She asked again. She got in front of the tree as she balanced herself on her feet and leaned on the tree. She lifted her brow as she gave Nadia the look, while she folded her arms. 

“After calling me a killer, are you here to kill me too?” She asked again. 

Nadia swallowed hard as she tried to find the perfect lie to tell. 

“I wasn’t here for you. I came here for a walk and then I heard someone crying. As the Luna, I decided to check on what was happening. I was just a little concerned, that’s all. I had 

no idea it was you and if I did know it was you, I’m sure I would have given you the privacy you needed.” She said. Nadia had finished talking as she bit her lower l*p. Lying at that moment didn’t seem so nice and so, she decided not to hide it. It wouldn’t hurt. 

“So, you decided to check on a random stranger in the woods out of the kindness of your heart as Luna, but called your best friend a killer because she p 

the drink intended for you to your mate? Are you kidding me or yourself? Is that how you are now? Isn’t that what they call a hypocrite? Tell me!!!” She said with her voice growing increasingly loud. She looked angry. Selene, that is. Nadia had looked down all the while she spoke but this time when she raised her head to look at her friend’s face, she noticed they were still some tears in her eyes. Her eyes looked red while her checks were puffy. The tear marks had not dried off her face as she looked so sad while she spoke. 

“I think I need to go. I’ll leave you to do what you were doing” Nadia said to her friend. She was feeling guilty about what she had caused her friend but she didn’t feel the need to tell her sorry. No. She didn’t deserve it. 

She turned to leave as she took one foot forward. She moved again and then Selene stopped her. Selene got in front of her as she lightly pressed her hand against her friend’s b*dy. 

“Tell me what changed you. This wasn’t you. This wasn’t the Iris I knew. The one I knew. You’re not the same person. Tell me, what did you see out there that caused you to change this badly.” She said calmly. While she spoke, she lifted one hand up as she wiped her eyes. It looked a really emotional moment for both friends, except that Nadia wasn’t buying it. 

Nadia pushed her friend slightly to the left as she withdrew her hands and attempted to walk away again. Still, her friend stopped her. 

Chapter 45 

“Iris. I’m begging you, talk to me!” She said again as she dragged her friend’s hand. 

It was becoming annoying and so, Nadia turned to her friend with her full b*dy. 

“Listen, Selene. I get that you’re very emotional now and all that, but I still think I did the right thing. I had been away for a long time. A year is a long time and people change in a year. I decided to see if you were still a good friend to me or if you had changed over the year. It’s that simple. Stop being so stuck up about it. You’re making me cringe “she gave her friend a side eye as she flung her friend’s hand and walked away. The tension was becoming too much and she needed to get away. 

Nadia walked really fast as she tried not to look back. She could still feel Selene’s gaze on her as she moved but it didn’t stop her from acting confident. It was surely nothing to worry about when she walked away from there. She maintained her pace and confidence until she was finally out of there. Once she had reached the main road, she shifted her form to her wolf and immediately started running. She got to the high roads and then started calming down. 

Nadia calmed down to catch her breath as she tried to walk slowly. She tried to stabilize her breath 100 and was finally succeeding in it until she felt someone chasing her. 

It was a fully brown color werewolf coming from her back. It was on a fast pace aimed at her. At first, Nadia wondered if they were just running for fun but then, when she noticed the werewolf had it’s focus on her alone and no b*dy else. She crossed to the other side and saw it cross over the other side. She returned to the lane she was previously and saw it do the same, that was when she was convinced that the werewolf was on her trail. 

Nadia thought to wait for them to reach her and then find out who it was but then, after seeing how fast they ran and how focused they looked, she changed her mind. 

It would be better to avoid it and find out later than waitt for them to reach her and maybe kill her. She was sure the moon goddess was kind to her by bringing her back to life again but might not be that nice the third time. She turned to see where the werewolf was and noticed it was only few feets away. 

She turned to look ahead and then got into a running position. She took her last breath. and then waited until her inner voice shouted, “Run!” 

Nadia immediately ran as she fastened her pace. Her new b*dy was faster as she tried to outrun the werewolf behind her. 

She ran for some minutes but no matter how hard she tried, the werewolf was still on her tail. Nadia tried to howl as she imagined it would alert her mate that she was in danger but it didn’t do her much good. Within a few seconds, something bit on her tail and pulled her back. It slammed her on the floor as she grabbed her again and flung her into the bushes.
