The Shadow Alpha
CHAPTER THIRTY-SIX

“They're baiting us.” I stated and he eyed me questioningly.

"How do you know?" he asked and I couldn't stop the laugh that escaped my lips when I thought of them falling into their own trap.

I pointed at the name, “Jimmy is possibly the smartest kid I know, he just chooses to remain oblivious to most things around him, he can't lie let alone betray the Blue Moon Pack like this. “They are trying to see what we will do about it. Let's be realistic, not even traitors are stupid enough to risk their plans by sending a message out when two Alpha’s are tailing them. Plus, take a look at the names here; they are some of our best. They want us to doubt our pack and doubt our best warriors. I do agree that some of the names on here are likely to be true, but not all that's for sure.” He nodded in agreement.

“I think we should check them out for good measure, but not openly.” I nodded and we left my office to go back to the training grounds.

The both of us walked from group to group watching as they sparred in both human and wolf form, when it came to sparring we tended to push training in human form to build speed and agility, a stronger human fighter makes a stronger wolf, therefore we concentrated on human against wolf fighting. We emphasize that a shift is only preferred if your competitor is a lot stronger than yourself. Wolves are a lot slower than human; being almost double in size caused them to be slower and therefore much more susceptible to injury as they can't dodge as easily.

Mixed training is generally held on a Friday when anyone may spar with anyone in order to build the weaker fighters and train them to fight a stronger opponent, fighting all over the world and being exposed to various types of fighting techniques, I learnt a lot about the best strategies and how to best prepare werewolves for battle with rogues

Rogues are dirty fighters, they especially attack weak points and try to get as close as possible to fatal areas as possible. They have no mercy and for that reason we are obliged to train our packs hard enough to be able to defend themselves against such soulless wolves.

Once training ended Devin stood in the middle of the largest mat and looked me dead in the eye. Understanding his silent message I smirked and stepped on to the mat with him.

Our eyes remained locked as we circled one another, silently trying to psyche each other out. I watched his movements like a hawk and took notice of his regular muscle movement, silently assessing the areas he guarded unconsciously.

Rule number one to fighting they say is to never make the first move, but it was clear that under normal circumstances none of us would, but these were not normal circumstances.

I felt Shadow push to the surface and my senses were automatically heightened. He kept his entire body guarded, a good approach when awaiting an attack, but as an expertly trained professional I knew just the right spot to attack.

I propelled myself forward and looked as if I was trying to punch him in the side with my right hand and saw him smirk slightly when he saw my supposed tactic, but in the last second I raised my left hand and karate chopped him between his shoulder and neck.

The action caused him to curl in the opposite direction leaving his torso open for my flying fist and seconds later he was stumbling backwards, but before I could get out of his path he thrust his fist forward into my gut, successfully knocking the air out of me and took the opportunity to sweep my feet from under me.

Instead of going down flat I forced my body towards his and took him down beneath me, the action caught him off guard as he flailed to maintain his balance. I swiftly rolled on top of him and pinned his front to the ground.

Before I could hook my legs around his, he hooked his around mine, forced us upward and spun us around until my back was to the ground, he left my hand free giving me room to punch him in the gut and force him off me enough to slide out from beneath him. The fight went on for another few minutes with the both of us wrestling between the floor and our feet, we both got in some heavy blows that I was sure would bruise for a good couple days but in the end the both of us ended up in a pretzel position that would ensure a winner if either of us moved but it would simultaneously break both our bones.

“Okay, Stop!" Hunter's voice broke through the cheering of the pack members and broke my concentration from the awkward predicament Devin and I found us in. Hunter threw us a death glare as the both of us looked up at him to protest, “With all due respect Alphas, neither of us want either of you to wind up in the infirmary, so please for everyone's sake, just call it a draw!” he pleaded.

Devin and I looked at each other and surveyed the position we were in, realising that he was right we both rolled our eyes and began untangling ourselves from each other. Just as I stood up free from Devin he tackled me to the floor and pinned my body beneath his, I struggled to get free, but his body held down my entire body safe for my neck.

“I win.” He whispered with a devilish smirk on his handsome face.

Unable to accept defeat, I thrust my face forward and captured his lips with mine. The distraction was all I needed for him to loosen his grip enough for me to push him upwards and roll us till I hovered above him. He looked surprised to find himself beneath me, but by the look in his eyes, I knew that he couldn't care less about the turn of events.

I leaned down to his ear and with a satisfied smirk I whispered, “Let's just call it a draw, Alpha.” His body shivered slightly when I called him “Alpha’.

Suddenly he relaxed below me and sent me a cheeky grin.

“Now Allie Cat, what kind of Mate would I be if I let my Luna lose?” The double meaning behind his words was blatantly obvious and judging by the series of hollers that rang through the crowd I can only guess that everyone picked up on it too.

“Not a very good one I suppose.” I flirted back and sent him an amused look.

"Oh beautiful Luna, with you by my side. I always win.”

The words may have been said in a smug tone, but the look in his eyes was serious. I rolled my eyes for emphasis at his blatant show of affection, but smiled nonetheless and stood up off him.
