The Sun God Diaries
Chapter Ten: A Dating Proposal

“So, you finally accepted that you’re bonded to the nine,” was the first thing that left Travis’ mouth as he, Sapphire, Carson, Charissa, and Persephone stormed inside my bedroom just as I finished my AP Physics online class for the morning. “Thank the Goddess you finally opened those eyes and got your head out of your behind because Uncle Topaz and Dad were worried that you’d be pulling a Regan Zallenda and rejecting those sex gods on a stick.”

I turned around from my computer, facing my friends as they took their seats on the carpeted floor. “And have my family blackballed me? Holy blacklists, Joneslake. I don’t think so,” I commented. “Yesterday, the guys and I finally hashed things out and they helped me see that they weren’t going to do the Regan on me- reject me on the spot. I don’t think I handle the rejecting phases if they did- dying slowly and painfully while they set their eyes on some other broads.”

“And you might have no other choice but to mate with Marissa DuMartel,” Persephone replied, frowning at the mention of the late femme fatale. “All of Bethune Memorial’s still talking about that and a few Alphas there aren’t too happy. They might want you to suck it up and just date her.”

“Ew,” Charissa groaned, her caramel and flawlessly made-up face frowning. “That would’ve made my parents spew their dinner.”

“Mine, too.” Persephone agreed.

“But back to the matter at hand,” Sapphire replied, stretching her long dancer legs briefly before crossing them, “we now know that all eyes and ears will be looking out on our boy right here with the Magnificent Eight now set to mate our friend. And when they finally propose, my brother and I will be gathering our parents to plan the wedding of the century.”

Everyone whooped and hollered at that.

“That’s definitely true,” Persephone agreed. “Mom and I looked over the wedding photos of your parents, Malachi, and everyone still remembers the wedding/coronation ceremony over at St. Catherine’s long before we were all born. Dad and Mom are hoping that I’d be the next Suarez-Draper to top it and with my skills as a wedding planner and teaming up with the Joneslake-Skye cousins, we’re sure to try.”

“Guys, guys,” I interrupted, putting both of my hands up to calm everyone down. “Right now, the eight and I are taking it slow since I got a lot on my plate with online classes with private tutors giving me homework left and right as well as my lessons on being royalty.”

“That’s true right there,” Carson agreed, nodding. “Mom and Dad did tell Floriana and me about your visit with your Great-Grandmother and the other gods. Boy, the Moon Goddess is one to drop a boatload of surprises nowadays. You being the legendary Sun God Wolf?! Dude, all of the members from the Four Aces think that it’s bound to happen, though some cynics still think it’s all myths.”

“Well if the Moon Wolf Legacy can come true, then so can the Sun God Wolf,” Travis replied. “And bitch, you already know that word will soon spread like wildfire. But we plan to keep it to ourselves, Malachi. No need to start anything that you don’t want to happen yet.”

“Thanks,” I replied. “And please keep the talks about all of this to a minimum because right now I need to-”

The door swung open to reveal one of the servants that was carrying lunch. “Mr. DuBauer, sir,” she said as she set the serving tray down on my desk before handing me an envelope. “This came with the afternoon mail.”

“Thank you, Melody,” I said as I watched her leave.

“Who’s it from?” Sapphire wanted to know, she and the others standing up from the floor.

“Dunno, but it smells a lot like Ian’s Burberry cologne, so it must be from the Eight,” I muttered, tearing open the letter and beginning to read.”

To our sweet Omega prince-to-be, the letter began.

You are cordially invited to a special after-classes presentation.

Tammany’s Diner, 4 p.m.

Pauly and Floriana will accompany you.

We love you, Malachi. And we plan to show you.

“Hot damn,” Charissa whistled. “What are those eight hunks up to now?”

“Beats me, but I plan to find out,” I replied. “For now, my Spanish tutor is coming in a few and you guys still have classes. We’ll chat later.”

“You bet,” replied Persephone as she and the others collected their things and left before I took to my desk and began to savor the healthy lunch made by Mrs. Yanez.

A long day of private lessons and two online classes later, I was currently riding in the backseat of Floriana’s SUV with Pauly in the passenger’s side and the female Alpha herself driving. Dad also came along for the ride since he was supposed to meet with the twins. “Looking good, Malachi,” Pauly hummed, smiling at my outfit of khakis and a canary-yellow dress shirt.

“Thank you,” I replied. “And I don’t suppose that either of you can give me a hint of what the-”

“No can do,” Floriana cut me off with a knowing smirk. “The guys paid me handsomely to make sure that you are left surprised and I am not to blab a single word about their plans.”

“Drat,” I muttered, sulking into my seat.

Dad chuckled. “Don’t worry,” he assured me as we finally neared the parking lots. “I’m sure you’ll love it. We’re almost there, you know.”

And sure enough, we arrived at Tammany’s with one minute to spare. But before I could unbuckle my seatbelt, I was suddenly given a gift box. “What’s this?” I asked, surprised at the red bow that contrasted the sky-blue box.

“Open it and you’ll see,” Pauly replied.

“This better not be one of your pranks, Yanez, or I’ll sic your momma on- WHOO!”

My eyes went wide as I reached in and pulled out an elegant Phillippe Patek wristwatch with a gold face crusted with diamonds and a leather bracelet. “For our lovely royal-to-be,” I read the inscription on the back. “Our love will be as timeless as your parents’ love for each other.”

“So cute,” Floriana gushed. “What else is in there?”

I reached inside to pull out some Kiehl’s skincare products, a box of Godiva chocolates, and even the latest Deniza Rivera (siren goddess of the stage and screen) CD. “Fancy stuff right here,” I commented before pulling out a small card. “Another note.”

“Read it,” Pauly said eagerly.

I turned around to see Dad with a blindfold in hand. “Really?” I said flatly. “All right,”

Three minutes and nearly tripping myself later, I was led inside the cool restaurant. “Can I open my eyes now?” I asked.

The blindfold was removed and I was blown away to see the diner transformed into an elegant setting with Sia playing in the background. My fathers and brothers with the former group’s mates were all dressed in red and white while my boyfriends themselves were dressed in white tuxedoes with red boutonnieres on their jackets. “No way,” I breathed, frowning at my pastel outfits. “You could’ve at least told me the dress code.”

“You look fine, love,” purred Thomas. “This is a family-and-mates-only dinner party and it’s our grand gesture to finally ask you to let us court you properly.”

“We know that we’re now mates, but we want to take you out on proper dates with us,” added Damien. “And not only that, we want to make sure that you are loved by us without conditions or reservations. We love you, Malachi DuBauer. And beginning tomorrow, we plan to show it.”

“So cute,” Alyssa gushed, leaning into the arms of an exasperated Azrael while Abaddon was laughing his head off until Gabe decked him in the stomach.

“Thank you,” Destiny commented to my brother.

“Anytime,” Gabe replied. To me, “So, Malachi. Which one of the Alphas is going to take you on a date first?”

“Leave that to us,” Ivan boomed, his angel wings on full display. “We’ll surprise him starting tomorrow. For now, it’s time to feast.”

And as I took my seat in between Isaiah and Yavier, I could only imagine what was going to happen on the arranged dates. And I had a feeling that the rumor mills back at school would have a field day.
