The Talamute Prince
Chapter 25

Patrick has taken everything from me. It was his false information that lead to my father and I fleeing. It was all his fault, his parents' fault for trapping me in a marriage with this heathen.

"It won't work. You don't think my people tried. You have taken enough from me. You won't get anything else. You will grow old and you will die." I slow down the last sentence to make sure he heard me. Patrick just maintains his deviant glare at my attempts to argue back. I still hadn't learned how to fight without my powers taking over and I didn't want to risk killing everyone just following orders.

"No everything, not yet." He doesn't give me any space to move away from him as four very large guards come in.

"What do you have left? You've taken me away from my home, you've taken the only friends I had here away, and now you'll have my freedom as well." he places his hand on my cheek and kisses me on the lips closed mouth. I had no intention of ever letting passion escape my lips for him ever again.

"There is one more thing I'll need to get out of my way before I can win you back."

"Never going to happen." I push his hand off my face.

"When I catch this royal Talamute, and I will catch him. I'll decapitate him in front of you. I will let you watch this barbarian die for loving you. Everyone else will know to keep away from you, Laoonica. I will have you again." I can feel the tears start to roll down my cheeks and I see the smile come across his lips as he believes he has won at this point. I watch as four heavily armed men trace circles out onto the balcony.

"I hate you." I stare deep into his eyes so that he knows this is the truth. I don't want him to make any mistakes about how I feel.

"You won't forever, my love." He had seen all of it my entire day, he had known when I brought the boy to him that it was a lie, but he went along with it. He had seen the invention which is why he asked the boy if he wanted to be anything else.

"Again, you won't live long enough to find out any different. My gifts are only transferable via my love, and I never loved you." I could see the truth now. I never loved him, I had just never been allowed to experience any sort of romantic fantasy between another being and myself.

"Now who's lying to who? I don't know why you keep staring out the balcony. No one is coming to rescue you. One man can't take on ten and hope to come out on top." Patrick had no plans of letting me be alone he had seen everything, and he now had everything he needed to put me in a windowless cell to hide me away from everyone.

"Take me to my cell then. I have no further want to speak with you." I pull back from every advance, but it isn't enough. I hear the door open and he nodded to one of the guards as he headed towards the door.

"It seems I'm needed for a moment my love. I'll be back up for your transfer, Excuse me." I don't care, so I say nothing as I look at the extra guards who keep staring at me.

"What?!" I finally snap at one, but he quickly turns away. I walk over to my dresses. As I look at them, I grow angrier. I pull all the purple ones out and toss them into a pile in the floor. I then turn to the one I had made for our wedding and I pull it down as well. I had dreamed of a beautiful wedding as a child. I had even made play wedding dresses and pretended to marry my father who played along to keep me happy. I place it on the top of the pile and as the tears continue to fall from my eyes, I pull a fireball into my hand. "I hope he can see this." The tears stream faster now. I let lose the ball of flames and it hit the close catching fire immediately. A guard came rushing in from the balcony heading to put it out.

"Let it burn." I demand in an angry voice. Seeing another fireball form in my hand he backs away. "I will surely come out of this with a broken mind and spirit. The least you can do is let me vent."

"Your majesty?" His look of confusion is answered as I threw another ball of fire at it causing it to blaze higher.

"If I'm to be a prisoner then let me look the part." I start throwing all the dresses onto the fire. As the last one lands in the flames I fell to my knees and watch it all turn to ash quickly. My head buried in my hands as the tears flow like a river raging out of control.

"I don't think that will change his mind." I lift my eyes to see Melena come into the door.

"What do you want?" She walks over and sits on the floor beside me. I turn to her as she sits with pools of water in the corner of her eyes.

"I'm being sent away for arguing with him over his treatment of you. I won't be allowed to return for some time I'm afraid. I have made him very angry." I turn my head to look at her and I see a large bruise on her cheek. She notices the look I give her. "It's not the worst thing he has ever done to me, he is lenient on me compared to others who back talk him. It's part of the reason I became a soldier. I wanted to get away from here." She stares at the fire as I watch a guard radio down that I've started the fire.

"You said he was a good man." She won't look me in the eyes as she fidgets with her pants.

"I had no choice, but to go along with it Laoonica. For all that, I'm sorry. If I could sneak, you out with me I would. Even after all I have done to you, all the lies you are still nowhere near as cruel as he can be. I pray to our gods that he doesn't show you half the anger he has me." I place my hand on her as I see she is shaking. Her tears no longer restrain in her eyes.

"That isn't all that was done to you is it?" She shakes her head. I pull what power I can from inside and let it flow into her. She glances over at me as she begins to tear up.

"I hope he doesn't destroy your kindness." She turns onto her knees and hugs me then turns quickly leaving the room.

"For what it's worth, you were my favorite Wolf." I chuckle at the thought that their last name was wolf and how ironic it was to be surrounded by wolves trapped in their den ready to be picked apart.

"The King is on his way back up. You should put the fire out before he arrives." The one guard who had come in said. He stood near the balcony unmoved as I pull the last of my fire from within and toss another ball at the pile. I lay on the floor as my eyes close from exhaustion. I guess if I was asleep time would pass more quickly.

I stay curled up in front of my mirror as the last embers of the burnt material goes out. Everyone whom I cared for in the least is being punished for my discrepancies. I see the door open again out of the corner of my eye and Patrick stands in the doorway with a smirk stretched across his lips.

"Back to inform me of other ways you intend to torture me?" I don't turn away from the last ember still lightly glowing slowly fading out. I feel more connection to it than to Patrick who towers over me. I couldn't stand if I wanted to at this point. I'm completely drained

"I came because I was informed you were setting fires." He walks towards me. I see him squat by the ashes using his sword to sift through it.

"It was under control as you can see." I inspect his sword for the first time. I manage to push myself from the floor.

"What exactly did you plan to accomplish by this?" He kicks the ashes and they go flying around. He reaches down where I'm still curled up and pulls me to my feet. He must hold me in my state I can't carry my own weight.

"The Assassin's sword, the one that melted into nothing looked exactly like yours." My stomach turns as the words escape me. sᴇaʀᴄh thᴇ Find ɴøᴠel.nᴇt website on Gøøglᴇ to access chapters of novels early and in the highest quality.

"I had a younger brother. Your despicable mother talked him into trying to kill you." Finally, a bit of truth escapes his lips.

"I have no doubt my mother was in on it but now his final statement makes sense." I pause for a moment trying to process my thoughts. The grin on his face must go away so I say the only thing that comes to mind to hurt him. He got what was coming to him." He lets me go and I fall back to my knees hard. It hurt but I stifled my moan of pain.

"My kid brother wasn't supposed to do any of what he did. If he had stayed home and trained our cousin better perhaps, we would be enjoying a room together." He grips my hair and pulls my head back so that I'm forced to look up at him. I put both hands on the one he has tangled in my hair. I start to glow, and he does what I expected. He slaps me as hard as he can sending me to the ground. I cough ashes that had went into my nose and mouth when I landed in the pile of burnt clothes.

"I will outlive you, your highness. Long after you grow old and grey, I shall remain beautiful and young, and as your looks fade your ability to charm me will fade with it. You will not be around forever nor will you be able to win me over during your lifetime. I look the same now as I did when I was eighteen and according to the prophecy there is no end to my life." His smirk quickly no longer rests upon his lips. He didn't say anything at first. He sits there looking at me with a blank expression on his face as my powers start to show. He nods at the door and the guards bring in a long roll of children who stand excitedly in their straight line.

"Go ahead, express your grievances, my love." I have never seen such a cold glare come over him. He had brought innocent children in to witness his cruelty.

"Monster." I whisper.

"Heal the bruise and rise to your feet." He hushes his voice for that part. "These beautiful children wished to meet their queen up close and personal. You wouldn't want to disappoint them, would you?" I pull my powers back in, but I don't have the strength in me to heal the red mark od his hand stretching across my face.

"Did you fall, your majesty?" One of the little girls asks. My heart breaks but if I told her the truth, he would do terrible things to her.

"I will fade." Is all I say as they rush in on me hugging me before laughing hysterically and rushing away back to the guards and out of the door.

"You see, Laoonica, there is always a way around your insignificant little outburst. Do it again and I shall order innocent children to be around you constantly. No back to the matter at hand. Why did you burn your clothes?" He is pressed against me as I barely stand on my own at this point. I weakly climb the stairs and return to my bed falling into it. He lifts my feet up onto it and sits beside me as tears escape and I just close my eyes.

"When she wakes up again call me. In the meantime, keep your eye on her temper." I hear him storm away and I really drift off to sleep without him there. No dreams this time, only this nightmare relived inside my own mind over and over as I toss and turn.
