Amy’s POV

When I reached my home mom was already gone. Where could she be? Was she in office? Did she know I got out? Or did she think I was dead now as the fire destroyed the asylum to ashes? What should I do now when I was out? Asked the neighbors? That was out of the question. They’ll straight send me to police. So I had one thing I could do. I can look for any documents that will help me found my real mother. Speaking of mother, I still remember how mom used to talk about Zack and me.

Flashbacks

“You’re grounded.”

I looked at my mom who was looking at me with disappointment. I couldn’t believe mom will be home early. I thought as always she’ll come home at morning and I would get away with my late night activities. But I was busted.

“But mom, we didn’t do anything. Zach only took me to an ice cream shop.” I whined looking at her with a pout. My mom Roth Gill was a respected lawyer in New York. She sometimes didn’t come home at night and I thought yesterday was going to be same. But she was home early and caught us entering the house at 5.

“Oh really? Tell me which ice cream shop keeps open at goddamn 5 in the morning!” Mom yelled furiously and for a second I felt a cold fear. It was like a natural thing to feel but I was sure it was weird to feel about your own mom.

“Mom, I couldn’t sleep. Zach only tried to-”

“That boy needs a resistance.” Mom stated furiously and my heart fell. I didn’t understand why but mom despised Zach. When I first introduced them she had found a lot faults in him and even one time she had the audacity to frame him as a gold digger.

“Mom! You know Zach loves me. Who will want to be with me after all the hell I’ve been thrown into?” I knew mom hated my boyfriend so I tried reasoning it out in my head, still, I had no answer. But what I knew that I was lucky to have Zach. Only if my mom would see the bright picture.

Suddenly she slumped to a stool in the kitchen. She staggered back a step, with her hand over her temples rubbing it in a tired manure. “I just don’t want you to get hurt. A player like him tends to break a lot of hearts. I don’t want my daughter’s being one.”

I wanted to laugh at her. Zach wasn’t a player, if anything a complete opposite of it. He was sweet, tender and always kept me his first priority. Last night’s adventure should be the proof of it.

“Mom, he wouldn’t do that. Trust me, no one will betray me.” Then I hugged her who hugged me back with equal love.

Only if we knew our brutal future.

NOW

There was a moment of peace thinking back to those times. When I was a human, not a Reaper. When I didn't crave souls in every hour. But nothing I did could ever reverse my curse. So I kept looking for what I came here for. Almost half an hour later I was tired. I was hungry but it was not the usual food hunger. It was for souls. I didn’t have reaping since I have escaped.

Guess its time for having a real dinner...

Harrison’s POV

This place was still the same I had left. The fresh smell of flowers, mud and homey. The one-story building surrounded with gardens like the others here had been my childhood home. This garden had been the place where I played with the kids, pranked my sister and had been exposed to a secret I've been carrying around for a long time.

“I knew you were coming.” A voice spoke from the kitchen when I entered the house.

When didn’t she knew when I was under pressure and need of answers? Smiling big my eyes found hers in the kitchen, as she beamed at me.

“How are you, mom?” I said giving her a kiss on the cheek. She engulfed me in a hug tightly afraid I’ll run away again.

“I’ve been good. But seeing you... You’re in trouble, aren’t you?” She asked me while giving me some pancakes she was making. Wolfing down the contents, it took a little while for me to answer cause lets be honest, food always comes first.

“Let’s just say... I need some help from you. A real help. What do you know about the Deshayes bloodline?” I asked her thinking the name.

The name almost gave mom a heart attack. She was staring at me as if I had told her that I’m going to suicide today. What was wrong with that family? Last few days I’ve been reading the diary and I’ve come across this surname too many times. Now you’re thinking why the hell I went to my mom for asking... Well..if you’ll understand it’s quite surprising that my mom is a part witch. I know unbelievable. And that made me part warlock but I never believed. But after what happened...

“Where did you heard that name?”

Surprisingly she was handling herself better than I thought. Although she was scared that I can tell.

“From a diary.” Sᴇaʀᴄh thᴇ FɪndNøvel.ɴet website on Gøøglᴇ to access chapters of novels early and in the highest quality.

“Who’s diary was that?” She asked again looking grim. Her poser was stiffed, the welcoming aura gone from her in a moment.

“Amy. Do you know anyone with that name?” I asked her while taking bites of the pancakes.

“No...but that bloodline... I never thought I’ll hear about them again. I thought they were destroyed, son!” She whispers yelled and it took everything in me to not hugging her. She was trembling and continuously shaking her head. I got up and hugged her from behind. It seemed to calm her down a little. Though this time I was confused. What was she talking about?

“Destroyed...?”

“The first of the bloodline Catherine Deshayes was executed for witchcraft. There was a curse...and one girl...who was more powerful than anyone in the witch family was banned from using magic. She used to do black magic and there was some sacrifice and last I heard that girl had some reaper problem or that’s what the rumors said. But after that, I’ve never heard of them. But what this has to do with you? Did you sell your soul or something?” She said almost crying.

“No of course not!” I said quickly to assure her.

But I was worried about one thing. This reaper thing was also included in the diary. Mom was looking at me...trying to find something maybe. She was clearly worried. I’ve never seen her this powerless. Not even when Iva...

“How’s Iva mom?”

This question made mom somewhat uncomfortable. Was she alright or...?

“She’s... Good. But she won’t talk to anyone. You think she’ll be alright?” She asked with a sad expression.

“I don’t know mom and I’m sorry I wasn’t with her when she needed her brother.” I apologized her cause I didn’t help her when I could. In short, I abandoned her.

“I know. But you helped her. Because of you, she’s with me. I never got to say thank you, dear.” I just smiled at her and once again I didn’t know what to do. I had to search answers in a week and go back. Only one week...I don’t know what is waiting for me in there but honestly,

I’m done with the games...
