Sarah Williams -POV 

“Yes, he did.” this news was like someone poured a bucket of cold water on me. I know Carmen very well, he will never back away from his promise. 

“Now, answer my question. What is your relationship with Alpha Vanguard? Why did you say that he is your mate?” 

“I…I didn’t tell them that he was my mate. He and I share a very distressing past, and I don’t want to open that up now.” I said and moved away from him and left the room. I will have to go and speak to Carmen about the situation that we are in. 

“Sarah, wait!” Beta Alan yelled, but I ignored his calling and went outside and walked towards the house. The moment I entered, I saw Alpha Vanguard, Carmen, and Dimitri in the living room. 

“Carmen, can I speak to you?” I asked him, which got his attention, and he nodded his head, but he didn’t make any moves to come toward me. “Alone?” I stressed the word, and he looked at everyone before he got up and followed me to the backyard. I walked deeper into the forest till I came to a stop in the middle of a clearing where no one was present. “Why are you spreading rumors that I am your mate?” I asked him, and he let out a humorless laugh. 

“It’s not a rumor, Sarah, it is the truth.”

“I broke our engagement the day you insulted me and left my pack, Sarah. I told this you over the phone, and I will say it again. I will make you mine one way or the other.” he said in a stern voice, and I huffed. 

“Once you reject your mate, the moon goddess will give you a second chance mate, Carmen. What are you going to tell your second chance mate?” 

“We will cross that bridge when we get there,” he said and for every word he uttered, he took a step towards me, till there was barely an inch separating us. Silence descended around us while we were both exchanging challenging glances. 

“Mark my words, Sarah. I will make you come to me and beg me to Mark you.” he sneered, and I gave him a smirk. 

“That will never happen,” I said, but he gave me a mysterious smirk that greatly confused me before he soon left the forest. Having Carmen in this pack is going to be difficult for me, and I know that Beta Alan is also suspicious of my behavior. I looked around the forest one last time before I made my way back to the pack house to get some rest. 

Beta Zachary Alan- POV 

I curled my hands into a fist and stared at the place where Sarah was standing a few minutes ago. I was in a constant battle with my mind and heart while the rational side of me was telling me that a mate will only cause me harm, like the first time, the irrational side of me was trying to defend her actions. “Zachary, come to your office now, Alpha Blaze wants to talk about the murder that happened last night.” I got a mind link from Dimitri, and I let out a frustrated growl before I marched my way toward the pack house. surrounding the entire pack house again, making my muscles relax and a smile grace my face. I ran up the flight of stairs and made my way to the office to see Alpha Blaze, Dimitri, and Noah, we were present in the room with a huge map of our territory spread out on my table. Everyone looked up from the map when they saw

“Zachary, were you able to find out anything about the woman who was killed?” Alpha Blaze asked me, and I nodded my head and made my way to my file cabinet and pulled out a black file, and gave it to him. 

“Her name was Rina Chambers, she is married and has two kids, and her husband is working at a law firm in the city. We went through her entire house but we did not find anything that lead her to be murdered. But there was the pungent smell of the rogue. It didn’t look like he was there to steal because he didn’t take any of her valuables.” 

“Is it possible that there might have been a misunderstanding between the rogue and her husband? Hence he killed her to exact revenge?” Alpha Blaze asked me while reading the file. 

“I don’t think so, he deals with property issues, and he strongly said that he doesn’t deal with werewolves.” I asserted, and Alpha Blaze closed the file and kept it on the table, and started to walk about the room. 

“I don’t get it. Nothing makes sense here,” he said to no one in particular. 

“Maybe, it is just an act of mistaken identity. But we will work on finding this rogue.” Noah chimed in, and Alpha Blaze nodded his head.

wanted to inform you that Alpha Vanguard will be staying in the main pack for the next three days. And he also wants to know who cured his mate. So Zachary,” Alpha Blaze turned his attention to me. “Check the CCTV footage and see who it was,” he said, I nodded my head, and soon everyone left my room. 

Well, I will not have to worry about getting found since I have deleted all the CCTV footage, but I must find out what is going on between Alpha Vanguard and Sarah. I know that it is not love that is blossoming between us, but I will find this out, just to satisfy my wolf’s questions, so that I can be in peace
