Chapter 32

Sarah Williams – POV 

The room door opened, and in walked Alpha Blaze, his face was etched with concern. Zachary removed his hand from my chin as if he touched the blazing flames and took two huge steps away from me. I know that I should be grateful that he has moved away from me, but for some reason, I felt a heavy sadness settle in the pit of my heart. I know, I gave all that pep talk about never falling in love with Zachary, but his actions and the small things that he does for me, make me helpless, and the small hope of having a loving and caring mate surfaced back in my heart. “I am feeling much better now, Alpha,” I reassured him, and he gave me a nod, but I know that he wasn’t satisfied with my answer. 

“Zach, did you find that rogue?” Alpha Blaze soon turned his attention toward his beta, who was now standing a few feet away from me. 

“Not yet, Alpha. But I am working very hard to find him for trying to take away what is mine.” he seethed, his pupils had dilated and changing into the color of onyx while the veins in his neck were pulsating. 

“Huh?” Alpha Blaze questioned, and this made beta Alan come out from his trance, and he stared at his Alpha. 

“Sarah is under my protection, so it is my responsibility to make sure she is all right.” he quickly covered his mishap, and Alpha nodded his head. And then they soon began talking about how the rogue who came into the pack undetected, and I slowly got up from the bed since my legs and back were stiff from all that lying down.

The moment my feet touched the floor, I felt my head start to spin, everyone around me became a blur, and I quickly held my head and tried to find something to support myself. “Zach,” I mumbled, and within a minute, I felt the sparks in my waist. 

“Sarah, Sarah, are you okay?” he kept repeating a lot of questions, but it was like I was floating in the air, and his questions felt like it was coming from a mile away. 

My head was spinning a lot now, and I felt my vision get blurry, soon darkness consumed me with my mate’s panicked voice in the background. 

Beep beep. 

The annoying sound of a machine woke me up. I slowly opened my eyes to see that the room was dark except for a single light that was dimmed. I looked out the window to see that the sky was dark, and a million stars were lighting up the otherwise dark sky. I gently pulled myself up till I was sitting against the headboard, and that is when I saw Zachary sleeping on the chair that was placed next to me. His face was free from all the creases, and he looked peaceful, and this made a sudden urge for me to read his mind. 

“Just a peak, Sarah,” Jane whispered, but I wasn’t sure if I should do it. I was afraid of what was going on in his head. 

“What if he was scolding us, insulting us in his mind?” I asked Jane, and she huffed. 

“I don’t think he has such thoughts, Sarah. I mean, if we know how he feels about us, then we can decide whether or not to stay close to him anymore,” she said, and this made my rejection harder. Sometimes, I hate when Jane talks with a lot

“Fine, just a peak,” I warned her and she howled in joy, and I shook my head and closed my eyes, and concentrated on my breathing. Soon I felt the barrier within his mind break, and I slowly tapped into his subconscious mind. 

A picture was visible, and upon closer examination, I realized that he was thinking about me, my heart was flattered with joy, and I unfolded all his memories when I came across a thought that he had. “I have never seen a woman so fierce and beautiful. But how will she be good enough to a monster like me? I know that I am falling for her, but will I be able to keep her happy? I am a soul filled with darkness while she is full of light, how can I purposefully taint that? She claims that she would grow to love me but what if I hurt her?” 

I quickly broke that thought, and my eyes flew open. My heart was beating at an inhumane rate. “Sarah?” I nearly jumped out of bed when I heard his voice, and I turned around to see that Zacahry was awake. 

“Do you need anything?” he asked me with a raised eyebrow, but my mind was filled with all the insecurities that he had. 

“Huh? Um, yes, I want to go back to my cabin.” I responded without a thought and this made a frown appear on his face. 

“Oh,” was all he said, I saw a glint of sadness in his eyes, but that was soon replaced with a cold look, and he quickly got up from his chair and stepped aside, and I slowly got up from the bed. My head didn’t spin, and I felt much better. 

“Do you want me to bring in a wheelchair for you?” 

“No, I think, I can walk,” I replied, and we silently made our

way out. The moment we exited the hospital, a cold breeze blew past me, making me shiver, which got Zachary’s attention. 

“What are you doing?” he removed the sweatshirt he was wearing and wrapped it around me. 

“You are cold. I don’t want you to die in this cold,” he said with sarcasm, but my mind had turned to mush when I saw his toned abs that were begging me to come to kiss him. Fragments of our passionate night crossed my mind, and my body heated up in want while my mouth was parched just thinking about that night. 

“You better get your thoughts straight, Sarah.” Zachary gritted out, and my eyes slowly moved up to lock with his. It was pitch–black, and his body was trembling, not in fear but in the same burning desire that I had.
