Beta Zachary Alan – POV 

I emptied an entire bottle of whiskey after I saw Sarah moving up the stairs and into her room. But no matter how much I drank, I didn’t feel drunk at all. “What are you doing to yourself, Zach?” I looked in the hallway to see that Adrian had come. He quickly walked towards me and pulled away the bottle from my hand. 

“Give that back, Adrian,” I yelled at him, but he shook his head and placed it on the countertop and looped his arm with mine, and lead me to my office. Once I was seated on my chair, he quickly closed and locked the door and came and took a seat opposite mine. 

“You need to talk, Zach. You have been acting weird these past few days, and don’t try to hide anything because I saw how mad you were when Sarah told us that Noah and she are getting married soon. What is going on between the two of you.” Adrian asked me, and I looked up at my childhood best friend. My heart ached to have lied to him and Dimitri, but I didn’t know how was I able to tell them that I have found my second chance mate, after what happened with Carolina. I was afraid that Sarah would turn out to be exactly like that. 

“Sarah is my mate,” I mumbled, and I looked at Adrian to see that his eyes were wide as saucers. 

“Then, why haven’t you told this to anyone, yet? why didn’t you claim her already, Zach?”

“But, Sarah is different. Anyone would be fighting to be her mate, Zach. I mean, Alpha Vanguard was a good example of that.” he said, and this made my blood boil, but I was relieved because Sarah rejected him publicly in front of all of us. “Wait, I noticed Sarah glaring at you every chance she got. Did you, by any chance, hurt her?” he asked me, and I bowed my head in shame. The room descended into an eerie silence before I slowly explained to him everything that happened between

“You are the biggest idiot, Zach,” Adrian yelled at me in anger while I remained silent because I know that I deserve it. 

“I regret everything I did in the past. But now, I want to win her over. Tell me how to do that, Adrian.” 

“Well, you have created a very complex mess, and if I was not your best friend, I would have never helped you in this,” he warned me, and I nodded my head in understanding, and he sighed before he paced back and forth. 

“Well, I have something in mind,” he said after a while, I looked up to see a knowing smirk on his face. “Just be how you used to be before Carolina came into your life.” 

Sarah Williams – POV 

My sleep was disturbed by an annoying sound that was ringing right next to my ear, and I pulled my pillow to block out that sound, but even after a while, it still kept ringing, so, I opened my eyes to see that the sky was still dark outside. An alarm clock placed on my bedside table was the source of that annoying sound. I moved closer and stopped it, and looked to see that the time was four in the morning. 

I don’t remember setting up an alarm. I was about to go back

to sleep again when I heard my room door open, and beta Alan entered my room. “Why are you still in bed?” he asked me in a gruff voice, and I huffed and sat up on my bed and turned on the lamp that was beside me. My throat immediately became dry when I saw that he was wearing a pair of black shorts that was showing his toned thighs and legs, and a black skin–tight t–shirt. My heart warmed at this sight while the heat was slowly consuming every inch of my body. 

“It’s four in the morning, beta Alan. What do you want me to do at this hour?” I asked him with sass and his lips lifted in a smirk that made the little confidence that I had, vanish. 

“When you are staying under my roof, you are supposed to abide by all the rules that I have set,” he said in a baritone voice, and this made a frown emerge on my face. “Apparently, training with Noah has got you no way, so I decided to take over your training sessions since I don’t want you to end up dead under my watch,” he said, and this made all my previous desire vanish, and I groaned and buried my face in my pillow. 

“What if I don’t want to practice with you?” I asked him when I got up, and he walked closer to me till our faces were only a few inches apart. 

“Well, I will first climb onto this bed.” Zachary slowly sat at the edge of the bed, which made me propel back. “Hold you by your shoulder,” he gently placed both his hands on either side of my shoulder, igniting the fireworks which made my eyes momentarily flatter close. “And gently place you on the pillow.” he pushed me back till I was laying flat and he was on top of me. My heart was racing at an inhumane pace while I felt a tight knot form on my lower abdomen in anticipation. “And slowly trace my hand under your shirt while lifting it in

the process,” he mumbled, his hot breath making the air around me scorching hot while his ice–cold fingers touched my belly and slowly moved up when it was almost near my breast, I jerked up, pushing him away from me, and I immediately got up from the bed and moved to stand near the window while Zachary casually laid down on my pillow with his arms crossed behind his head with a taunting smile on his face. 

“Please get out. I will be downstairs in five minutes.” I whizzed out, and the smile on his face only widened. He soon got up from the bed and made his way toward me till he came to a stop in front of me. His right hand slowly moved up till he slowly and sensually tucked a stray hair behind my ear. 

“Five minutes. And I will come up to get you myself,” he whispered and soon left the room after the bang of the room door, I let out a breath that I was holding inside. 

“What changed him overnight?” I wondered because something definitely feels different about Zachary. 

“Maybe, he wants us now,” Jane said, but I shook my head and quickly made my way to the washroom because I don’t want Zachary up here and in my room again.
