Chapter 7

Alaric’s POV

When I woke up the next morning, I felt ashamed of myself.

Last night, I asked Farren for her number under the pretense of needing it for emergencies. But truthfully, I did it out of frustration.

Frustration over what, you ask?

The fact that she easily gave her number to Loki.

“I thought she didn’t want us to have any involvement until after our divorce, I muttered to myself.

Tsk. I clicked my tongue before taking a sip of water. Suddenly, my phone began to ring. I glanced at the screen and saw that it was my secretary, Alejandro, calling.

“Why is he calling at this hour?” I complained before picking up the call. “What is it?”

“Uh, good morning, Sir,” he replied nervously, “I hate to ruin your morning, but your grandfather wants you to come over to his house as soon as possible.”  S~ᴇaʀᴄh the FɪndNovᴇl.nᴇt website on Gøøglᴇ to access chapters of novels early and in the highest quality.

“Again? I just saw him yesterday.”

“Yes, Sir. Unfortunately, there’s a strange rumor spreading online. It’s a scandal involving you and a supermodel.”

My eyes widened. Memories flooded back, and I recalled the famous model who had tried to flirt with me at Loki’s bar.

I clenched my

teeth and closed my eyes tightly.

“Send me the link. Right now,” I commanded.

“Yes, Sir!”

Alejandro ended the call, and shortly after, he sent me the link to the article.

[“Famous top model, Jennifer Myers, was caught having an affair with a well–known businessman with the initials A.F. They were seen flirting together at a bar.“]

“Damn it.”

Now, I am involved in a scandal, all thanks to Loki’s stubborn request for me to visit his new bar.

This isn’t the first time I’ve found myself in such a predicament, but this time feels. different. Everyone is aware of my recent marriage, and this news could potentially have a significant impact on our company.

In a rush, I reached for my phone and dialed my secretary’s number once again. “Let Grandpa know that I’ll be at his place shortly.”

“Understood, Sir!”

Without wasting any time, I hurried back to my Grandfather’s house.

When I arrived, Grandpa’s mood seemed really off. He appeared angry after reading the news about me.

“Alaric. You knew exactly why I asked you to come back to my house,” he said.

I glanced at him, sitting on the couch opposite me. Then I replied, “That’s not true. I didn’t flirt with the model. I just went to that bar to support Loki. He’s the owner.”

Grandpa let out a sigh before responding. “No matter if it’s true or not, what matters is how you handle the consequences. Everyone knows it was you.”

Absolutely. Even if they only used the initials A.F. to refer to the businessman, it’s pretty obvious that it’s me.

“Grandpa,” I called out, “I’ll make sure they take down the article as soon as possible. It won’t cause any harm because it’s not even true. The stocks won’t be affected. Trust me.”

The second thing I realized was that Grandpa was looking at me with empathy. It was as if he couldn’t believe what he had just heard.

Why? Did I say something wrong?

“Did you even consider your wife?” he asked, dropping the bombshell.

A bell went off in my head. I knew I was a married man, and this scandal would only make things worse. But this morning, did I even think about how Farren would react?

No. I only thought about myself.

“It hasn’t been that long since you tied the knot,” Grandpa said. “Just think about how devastated Farren must be after hearing the news.”

Chapter 7

I clenched my fists. It was difficult for me to imagine her feelings because, in the beginning, there was no love between us. On top of that, I caught her giving her number to Loki at the bar.

Considering she asked me not to cheat but still went out to have fun with other men, will she truly be hurt by the news?

“Alaric,” Grandfather called out to me.

I looked up.

“I believe in your innocence. Your friend, Sherlock, even reached out to me and vouched for you. I’ll also help you take down the article circulating online. So, do your best to make things right with your wife. Tell her the truth so she won’t be hurt. That’s why I called you. I know you only care about your reputation and your company.”

My eyes widened, but then I calmed down. A part of me had a feeling that Grandpa. already knew that Farren and I weren’t getting along.

Well, Grandpa was right.

I should go back and talk to Farren about the truth. After all, we had a deal that we wouldn’t have an affair before the divorce

After saying goodbye to Grandpa, I headed back home. It was still early, so I knew. Farren hadn’t left for work yet. There was still time to have a conversation.

But as soon as I walked through the door, I saw my wife fully dressed for work. She was coming down the stairs when she noticed me and stopped in her tracks.

Our eyes met.

There was a moment of silence between us that felt like it lasted forever.

I was rude last night, so this tense atmosphere between us wasn’t surprising at all.

Farren carefully descended onto the ground and looked at me. It was as if she was waiting for me to say something.

After taking a deep breath, I asked, “Have you seen the news online?”

She shifted her gaze away and replied, “Yeah.”

Just as I was about to speak, she interrupted me.

“We made a deal, remember? We agreed not to get involved in any extramarital affairs during our time together,” she said, avoiding direct eye contact. “But you know what? If you want to change the terms of our agreement, go ahead. It doesn’t bother me

anymore.”

What?

She didn’t mind at all?

She really thought she could change our agreement just because of Loki? Was she seriously considering having an affair?

Even though I couldn’t offer her love, I stayed

to her husband. I came here to sort thing true to my promise and remained loyal

out, even though I had every right to be

angry with her for flirting with another man.

Feeling let down, I sighed and said, “Alright. We can modify our contract.” Then, I walked past her without glancing back.

Once inside my room, I flopped onto my bed and angrily punched it with my fist..

“Sh L

It was so easy for her to say that just because she enjoyed flirting with other men. Ugh. She’s just like all the other women out there.

“If she truly believes I had an affair, then so be it!” I muttered through clenched teeth. And then, my phone started ringing.

I glanced at the caller ID, and my eyebrows shot up when I saw my “Sherlock Holmes.”

“This is all his fault,” I grumbled before answering the call.

“Dude!” he exclaimed as soon as I picked up.

friend’s name:

I quickly moved my phone away from my ear for a moment before bringing it back.

“I’m really sorry!” he apologized, chuckling. “I had no idea there was a damn paparazzi in my bar. It’s my fault. But I explained everything to your Grandfather, so everything will be fine. By the way, did you explain everything to your wife?”

1 frowned.

Why does everyone keep forcing me to explain everything to Farren? She SAID SHE

DIDN’T MIND AT ALL. So, what’s the point?

“When I saw the news this morning, I got worried about her,” Loki continued. “Damn it. I still feel embarrassed! Why didn’t you tell me she’s your wife?”

The scowl on my forehead deepened as I muttered, “Wait, what did you say again?”

“I mean, the woman I saw in the bar last night. I was so shocked that she’s your wife! And

you, you didn’t even tell me! Did you enjoy making me feel like a complete idiot?” he replied.

If Loki knows that Farren is my wife, then…

“Didn’t she give you her number last night? I saw it,” I said.

Loki burst into laughter on the other end of the line and said, “Dude, she threatened to call the police if I didn’t stop bothering her. She’s pretty savage, lol.”

I was wrong.

I misunderstood her.

“At first, I thought she was just making up an excuse about being married. But then, when your name came up, everything clicked. I finally understood why you reacted so coldly when I mentioned falling in love with her at first sight,” Loki admitted.

Regrettably, I didn’t know any of this and ended up judging her unfairly and being rude to her last night.

And to make matters worse, I didn’t clarify things just now and unintentionally said. things that might make her believe I actually had an affair.

“Hold on. You seriously believed that your wife actually reciprocated my advances?” Loki’s question only intensified my embarrassment. “I admit, I did try to flirt with her initially. But she turned me down, and I’m not the kind of person to mess around with my friend’s spouse! Did you really get angry at her without even clarifying things?”

It’s frustrating how well Loki knows me, considering we’re friends.

“Let me guess. You let your pride get in the way, didn’t you? You didn’t bother clearing your name or confessing your innocence to your wife?” Loki added.

“You’re quite the chatterbox in the morning. I’m gonna end the call now.” I hung up and tossed my phone aside.

Letting out a frustrated sigh, I buried my face in my hands.

“Damn it,” I muttered, before finally lowering my hands.

I felt awful for misunderstanding my wife. How can I fix this

I grabbed my phone once more, intending to reach out to her. But then it hit me: I didn’t even have her number

“Ha, looks like I’ll just have to wait for her to come back home.”
