Lacuna:

chapter 11

Azalea Thompson

Light in the land of the undead was a rare thing. Although that is the case, peace and prosperity blossoms in the land; humans and Vampires living in peace with one another in Fang Falls. Only the cold-hearted and power-hungry treat the smaller and poorer ones like slaves, servants who have to kiss their feet wherever they go, supply them with the only thing they need for life only for them to be thrown away like useless Ragdolls.

In the highlands, monstrosities of houses loom over each other, the rich battling to see who has more money and the tallest standing house. Greed and selfishness linger in the air there. Then in the lowlands, the more peaceful part of the kingdom lives the ones who don't have much or those who have enough, but a peaceful life is all they ask for. There may be no light, but light and kindness blooms there. SᴇaΚ€*α΄„h the Find_NΓΈvel.Ι΄et website on GΓΈΓΈglᴇ to access chapters of novels early and in the highest quality.

Last is the Castle, a 6 storied monstrosity looming over the whole of the kingdom with its highest point almost touching the skyβ€”it's surely something the greedy envy. Ivy grows in the crevices on the walls outside along with cobwebs decorating beneath the windows and the corners. Rose gardens on either side of the driveway and a gargoyle statue in the middle of it.

And last, the inside of the Castleβ€”the first three floors bright, elegant and alive and the last three dark, brooding and quieter than other parts of the house.

Azalea loved the art room where most of the family generation portraits were hung on the walls, either pretty or creepy. It was a dark room, the only source of light being the large floor to ceiling windows covered in heavy velvet curtains. Her favorite was of her fatherβ€”the flower gardens at her home and blurry figures of her and her sister. The painting was not for sale but when Donald gave her a chance to go see her family one more time, she brought it back with her.

The house was empty and darker than she remembers it to have been, her parents and sister nowhere to be found. She did eventually find out of her sister's whereabouts but never of her parents. There was no trace of them, it's as if they disappeared from the world.

She was 7 when Donald took her. She was sad that she wouldn't be able to see her family, but happiness overpowered it all because she's always wanted to have a soulmateβ€”the thought of having someone who'd love her like her father did her mother excited her. She was younger then and dumber.

As she grew over the years, she realized just how much she needed her parents' love, even with Donald's love is making up for it, it wasn't the same.

And now as she sits on the floor, staring at the pictureβ€”all the memories she has of her sister rushed into her mind like a tornado. She's happy she too has a mate, at least she has someone to take care of her while their parents are gone wherever they are. The sound of the door opening interrupts her line of thoughts and she looks away from the picture to see who it was. Donald stood in the doorway, a soft smile on his pale pink lips and a rose in his hand.

The first time she met him, she thought he was the most beautiful man in the worldβ€”midnight black hair just above his broad shoulders, a pretty turquoise color for the eyes, pale silky skin and a burly physiqueβ€”she still thinks he's the most beautiful man in the world.

"Here you go my love." He used his speed to get to her and hand the flower to her. After she took it, he sat down by her. "I have good news for you, your sister's coronation to officially become the werewolf queen and the Luna of the Crystal Moon Pack is in four days. Just like you'd hoped it would happen; it's happening."

"Oh my God! Really? Then we are definitely going, I haven't seen her in like forever." She cheered, wrapping her arms around his neck and thanking him endlessly.

After the little moment, he left her alone in the room once more. She looked back at the picture, but this time not with a sad smile but a ginormous happy one.

"I'm finally going to see you, Gali. I'm coming home."
