Lacuna:

chapter 12

Dappled sun shone through the trees, creating mysterious shadows that loom over them. "Larkin, I know it's a painful process but… could you shift so we could get there faster. I understand ifβ€”" her words were cut off by fast movement behind her and the familiar cracking of bones. Gali stopped when she picked up the soft scent of honey that drifted along with the wind, she turned around to see Sonu was proudly in Larkin's place.

The wind blowing at his fur made him shimmer more so under the light of the last summer sun. Without warning, Sonu picked her up and placed her on his back then continued deeper into the woods. She held on tight, the speed they were traveling at causing adrenaline to rush faster through her veins. The world around them was reduced to a blur, only the birds' sweet mysterious song along with the wind kept up with them. She pressed her face further into its fur, breathing in the pine trees and honey scent that always radiated from him.

It calmed her, washing the worries awayβ€”like breathing new life into herβ€”again and again. Gali had asked Larkin before of the scent and he had explained to her that every wolf had a unique scent it was born with and that's how some found their mates, by their scents. He had told her that she had one too, a sweet mixture of Jazmine and honey. Gali didn't believe him though, for she tried a lot of times to smell it off of her but failed. She's glad that they shared something so deep though.

Larkin loved seeing them together, a big part of him connected to her, a part of him that'll always belong to herβ€”Forever.

They skid to a stop before two wooden pillars; both were about 7ft Long and 4inches apart. At the top, a howling wolf was carved into one and the moon and the stars into another. "They must mark the territory." She whispered to herself; voice heavy with awe. Sonu interrupted the little moment when he shook her off and she fell flat on the ground. He shifted back and went to retrieve clothes from behind a bush.

"Welcome to the Pack Luna." He said softly, pulling her off the ground and towards the pillars. They walked for a whileβ€”the trees becoming sparser and the sound of a river flowing became clearer, a cabin or two could be seen here and there and all looked empty. Soon they were in the middle of the markets at the town square.

Everything was colorful and bright; all the different things displayed on the stands for people to pick from, handmade crafts and antiques. People much like Larkinβ€”height and body structureβ€”were going around either buying or sitting on the long benches under the cherry blossom trees. Whenever someone walked by them, they'd bow their heads or smile at Larkin but whenever they saw Gali, they'd stare curiously or send smiles her way.

It didn't take long for them to reach the pack house and still, she wasn't ready yet to meet his family, but Larkin had assured her, "it'll all be okay." He said, "Don't worry your pretty head about it Gali, they'll love you."

A beautiful three storied house made of wood and patterned stones came into view, it was beautiful but simple, a small balcony at the top right with potted flowers on it. It brought a sense of home and warmth to anyone who gazed upon it or entered it. "This will be your official home in three days' time once you're crowned, but by the looks of it we won't have to wait that long.

Mother lives here along with my sister and she'll be able to finish off where we stopped, she knows more than I do. Come." Gali nodded and Larkin took her hand, walking her to the doorstep before giving a light knock.

"You're here!" A woman came out of the house, a bright smile on her face. Golden brown hair and silky brown skin, she looked pretty, her arms outstretched as she ran to us. The woman was followed by a girl who looked younger than Gali, the same bouncy curls as her mother were on her head, her porcelain skin shone like diamonds under the sun but not much like her pearly white smile.

The women both embraced Gali and Larkin in a tight warm hug and Gali's lips stretched out into smiles. "Galinarael Thompson, the long-awaited Luna." The older women greeted.

They pulled her into the house. They wasted no time pushing her down to a chair and setting a cup of hot cocoa in front of her. "I'm Penelope Morph, Larkin's mother." Gali looked at her she said that, studying her more closely nowβ€”her golden hair a shade darker than hers but with much volume, her skin a soft brown tone, hinting to almost gold and her eyes a startling jade-green; everything about her was so perfect and her personality added to the light she Is.

"And I'm Chrysie Morph, short for Chrysanthemum. I'm his sister." Her eyes shifted to the pale beauty beside her. Her skin still shone like glass even in the dim-lighting of the room, and her eyes stood out the most as they were the same lily-white color of Larkin's. She seemed like the cheery type, loud but fun. Gali would enjoy her company.

The introductions ended when Larkin explained why they were there. The mood changed, his mother's demeanor changed to a serious one and she grabbed Gali's hand before speaking. "You went through so much and you don't even know half of it or even able to explain it.

I know you blame yourself for their death, but you were still young, so young even your mind wouldn't have been able to interpret them all. Well don't, all that's been happening in your life was preparing you for something much bigger, you becoming the Luna is just the beginningβ€”greatness and a lot of it is coming your way little Gali and everyone will here support you, even your sister."

Gali's heart stopped , the air around her thickened, making it hard to breathe. It's not possible. "My sister?"

"Your sister isn't dead Gali, she's with her destined but you'll see her very soon my dear. Very soon."
