Chapter 4: Alone and Confused

Grandma pushed us into the house and rushed us to moms den immediately and entered a code as I asked her what were we doing in moms office and grandma said "no time " as she entered a code that caused the floor to open up and she pushed us in an said "black car on the left" I'VE GOT TO GO" and I said "grandma where are you going"' and she said "I'm going to lead them away so you guys can escape"... take that car, it'll fly you to the safe house, I've got to go, love you guys". The floor closed up as lights came on, revealing a large garage of cars that were colorful and I thought about getting in one until grandma's face came on a monitor. She said she was flying in a car and that she had led the men away from the house and to get into the black car quickly. The car was a small van that seemed normal but when we got in; a voice said please state identity and I said "Camilla unique Bowman" and Ernie said "Ernie Tobias bowman "the computer said, "identities confirmed, plotting a course to the safe house". These touch screens lit up as the car zoomed through a dark tunnel very fast and out into a field before it lifted up off the ground and started flying.

Hours passed as the car flew on to this "safe house" until finally, the car landed in a forest and I said there's no safehou- and before I finished my sentence, a door in the side of this mountain opened up, revealing another tunnel as the computer said, "now entering the safe house". After reaching the end of the tunnel the car pulled into a garage and the doors opened up and the computer said "destination reached". When we got out the car, me and Ernie found ourselves in a garage that had a ton of armored cars with gun turrets all over them and we walked through this garage for a few minutes, trying to find a door somewhere until I accidentally leaned on a panel and it opened up the wall, revealing the exit. The door led into this wide-open base that looked like it was from an arcade or spy movie. In one corner was a rack of guns and in the middle was a big TV and sofa with an open kitchen off to the side and 2 narrow halls one of which had 3 bedrooms and the other hall had a room with a bunch of screens and it had operations on the door.

I told Ernie to watch something on the TV while I go make a call and I must admit that despite all this, the only thing that was on my mind at the moment was Jamie; how his tan skin gleamed in the sunlight and how cute he looked when he didn't have glasses on. If we're being honest I knew Jamie had been crushing on me since 2nd grade, but I ignored him because he wasn't the most popular or cutest but now all these feelings and memories of Jamie began flooding back and I began to feel bad for how I treated him so I picked up the phone and called him. Jamie answered and said "y-you called" and I said "yes...um I wanted to thank you for saving me and Jamie said," your welcome" and I said "I been kinda thinking about you...all the sweet things you've done, all the times I've ignored it and well I'm confused right now because I like you" and Jamie said "I'm sorry but I'm moving back to my hometown of Louisville next week "and I said "oh" and he said "maybe I can see you before I leave" and I said" those guys you saved me from are after me and I'm in hiding and my parents are kinda missing right now "and he said "oh, that's gotta be rough" and I said "I'll call you later and I promise I will see you again Jamie don't worry" and he said, "you better". I walked into the kitchen and Ernie walked in with me and the fridge was full of food but more importantly, it had sweets so me and Ernie pigged out on the popsicles and juices and cakes in the fridge before eating some pizza.

when I went to sit on the couch to turn on the TV, a computerized voice said "identity confirmed and on the screen was a video of mom and dad and it said "Camilla, Ernie if your watching this then things aren't too good for any of us right now...this place is an old family safe house built by my parents to keep me safe and is here to keep you safe now...I never told you guys but there are bad guys who want to take all of us and dissect us because our DNA is different in a good way and despite the government banning genetic testing, there are still sickos who will still try to hurt us so we headed to take them out for good, but we've been captured and they're now after you...so stick with grandma and stay here and try not to worry, everything will be OK I promise"  and then the video cut to grandma and she said "it's up to you guys now, I've most likely been captured and will likely be taken where your parents are held and it'll be up to you to bring the cavalry kids, inside the operations room there's a book with numbers to people who can help you, and whatever else you need just ask the computer...I believe in you guys, you're genetically enhanced as well, that's why your so smart for your age so put it to use kids" and then the video ended and me ad Ernie began to freak out. We were all alone and our parents and family are depending on us to do something we don't even know how to do and if we don't find out how they'll die and suddenly I began to cry and think, why me why can't it be someone else I'm only 8. As I looked at the digital clock on the wall it read: September 11th, 2046,8pm and I knew today would be a day I would never forget.
