Samantha didn’t notice Alexis‘ expression. She was preoccupied with her own sense of guilt. 

Her parents would have desperately needed her support when that incident occurred. Yet, she had disappeared for four years. She chastised herself for being a horrible daughter. 

Samantha lowered her head, tears slowly dripping into the soup she was stirring. She quickly wiped her tears and returned to the more important topic of 

conversation. 

“For now, don’t let my parents find out about me. I’m worried that it might be harder to keep this a secret if too many people know. Kendrick is searching for me, and the first ones he’ll focus on are my parents,” she said. 

After a slight pause, she added, “Also, I need you to investigate what happened to Duncan Group that year. I have a feeling things aren’t as simple as they seem, and Kendrick definitely has something to do with it.” 

Hatred gleamed in Samantha’s eyes. Her determination for revenge grew as she thought of how much she and her family had suffered all these years. 

Alexis agreed without hesitation. She was happy to help Samantha in any way she could. Samantha and Alexis chatted happily throughout dinner. They enjoyed some wine as they talked. 

The next morning, Samantha found herself waking up with Alexis next to her in bed. She knew Nathan had to be in Francis‘ room.

Samantha washed up and prepared to leave. She then realized that Francis had prepared breakfast. 

She felt exasperated as she recalled the animosity between Francis and Alexis. Fortunately, Francis wasn’t mean enough to completely ignore Alexis while they were drunk. 

Samantha began eating breakfast. 

Sensing that Francis was still annoyed by yesterday’s events, she complimented him. “Thank God you’re here. I wonder which girl will be so lucky to marry you in the future. I think Alexis is a good fit. Why don’t you give her a shot?” 

Samantha was aware of how kind Francis was toward her, as well as his feelings

she was vulnerable. Besides, she didn’t have the time to dream about romance right now. 

Francis was disappointed. He hadn’t expected Samantha to try and set him up with her friend. 

Disgusted, he quickly refused. “There’s no way I can handle that crazy woman. You better remove her soon.” 

Samantha devoured her meal, grabbed her bag, and headed for the door. 

Ignoring what he said, she said, “Alexis is a good person. Marrying her is a good choice. You’d better not pick on her while I’m away, and take good care of my son!

With that, Samantha jogged out of the house. She didn’t expect to see Kendrick’s car outside her house. 

It was a familiar Maybach that now carried a mark thanks to Samantha. She couldn’t believe that Kendrick would drive a car like this. 

Still, she pretended not to see the car. She walked right past it without greeting Kendrick. 

Kendrick had been waiting for nearly an hour. He wasn’t here to pick her up. Instead, he felt uncomfortable at home since Linda was staying there. So, he decided to come here instead. 

As he was preparing to get to work, he thought of Samantha, whom he had abandoned by the roadside. He decided to drop by and check in on her. 

He felt annoyed when he saw how happy she was emerging from her house. When she spotted his car, her smile disappeared. He felt a sense of satisfaction. 

When she chose to ignore his car, he couldn’t stop himself from slapping the 

horn. 

Samantha had been standing beside the car when the car honked. Startled, she lost her balance and almost fell. 

She thought that Kendrick must be out of his mind. 

She flexed her ankle. Fortunately, she didn’t seem to have sprained it. Her distaste for the man only grew. She knew he was doing this to get her attention. Yet, she feigned ignorance and kept on walking. 

She didn’t spare him a single glance even as she walked away from the area and hailed a taxi to the office. She couldn’t believe his audacity after abandoning her

Through the rearview mirror, Samantha heaved a sigh of relief when she didn’t see his car following her. She was his employee, not his servant. She couldn’t fathom why she should have to go out of her way to please him. 

Samantha was delighted as she walked into her office building. 

When she saw Jude startding in front of her office, she felt her mood turning sour. There could only be one reason for him being here. 

Samantha just wasn’t sure what trick Kendrick was up to this time. 

When she reached Jude, she greeted him with a smile. “You’re early today, Jude. What’s up?” 

Every time Samantha smiled, Jude would imagine the woman who had disappeared. This happened even though the two women were completely different people. 

“Mr. Ford said he needs a secretary and that you suit the position. He asked me to let you know that from today onward, you’ll be working as his head secretary,” Jude explained after snapping out of his daze.
