Chapter 0044 

“What?” Samantha assumed there was a mistake. After all, she was a designer, 

not a secretary. 

Still, she knew that nothing good could come out of Kendrick’s decisions.

Despite her professional smile, she couldn’t conceal her anger. 

“Don’t worry, Ms. Meadows. You remain as the head designer. You’re just filling up another role simultaneously,” Jude explained. “Mr. Ford will pay you double. He also said to look for him at his office if you have any other questions.” 

Jude remained stoic, unfazed by Samantha’s fury. He was Kendrick’s loyal assistant. No one but Kendrick could shake him. 

Samantha knew trying to argue with Jude would be useless. 

She turned around, deciding to wait for Kendrick in his office. When she reached his office, he was already seated. 

She wondered how he arrived earlier when he was behind her. It was no wonder he could annoy her so early in the morning. 

Pushing her questions aside, Samantha paused in front of his office door for a moment before walking in. 

“Mr. Ford, I don’t understand why the head designer has to be your secretary as well. Is the company so short–staffed?” 

Samantha didn’t bother beating around the bush. After all, she’d never respected Kendrick as her superior. 

Kendrick was reviewing a document when he heard her voice. He looked up and drawled, “Because I need a secretary, and I think you would be a good fit for the position.” 

“You’re surrounded by talented individuals. I’m sure you can easily find multiple secretaries,” retorted Samantha, indicating that she couldn’t be bothered about being his secretary. 

Still, Kendrick didn’t care for her opinion. “Ms. Meadows, rule 48, found on the ninth page of your contract, states that you are to accept all arrangements made by your superior.”

“You” Samantha had gone through her contract diligently. She vaguely remembered a rule like that. 

She assumed it was only referring to deployment arrangements. She didn’t expect him to use it like this. 

“Fine, I’ll go get prepared, then. When do I start? I appreciate this opportunity, Mr. Ford,” Samantha said through gritted teeth. 

She weighed this decision and thought that it might work to her advantage. It’ll make it easier to carry out her plans. 

Kendrick didn’t know what Samantha was plotting, but he felt happier after seeing her give in. 

“That’s unnecessary. You’ll be working in my office. Jude will prepare everything for you. He’ll also move your design materials. Unless stated otherwise, your only focus is on designing,” he said. 

Then, he continued, “Oh, right. I’m pleased with the edited design. You can get started on a demo. Use whichever material you like.” 

She seemed fixated on ignoring him. So, Kendrick was going to force her to face him at all times. Kendrick knew he was doing this just to get even with her for this morning. 

As Samantha didn’t need to move anything, she could only wait in Kendrick’s office. 

Several minutes later, Jude and several others came in. They were carrying a new desk. Then, they placed it close to Kendrick’s. Her belongings soon followed. 

With a smile, Jude said, “From now on, this will be your seat, Ms. Meadows.” 

For some reason, Jude’s smile seemed odd. He seemed to be congratulating and mocking her at the same time. 

Samantha thanked him and waved the man away. Irritated, she started organizing her desk. 

Her mood turned foul at the thought of being forced to work in the same room as Kendrick every day. Kendrick grinned when he saw her frustrated expression. 

“I’d like a cup of coffee, Ms. Meadows.” 

Samantha paused in the middle of sorting her documents. She refrained from slapping them across Kendrick’s face. She reluctantly agreed. 

It turned out that being a secretary essentially meant being a maid.

Holding a fresh cup of coffee, Samantha had a feeling Kendrick was toying with her. 

She didn’t notice the growing crowd in the pantry as she was quite occupied. She also wasn’t aware that since the company was founded, Kendrick had never requested a secretary. Otherwise, people would be constantly tearing down others to compete for the position. 

Naturally, many people were curious about the sudden position that was bestowed upon Samantha. 

As Kendrick’s biggest admirer, Linda naturally acquired this news as soon as it happened. Linda’s attitude toward Samantha was disdainful. She was also wary because Sophia seemed to know what happened to Samantha. However, Linda couldn’t be sure of how much Sophia knew. 

Linda contemplated how Samantha would know that she was the culprit behind the incident years ago. 

Linda’s hands clenched into fists, her nails digging into her palms. 

She couldn’t help but worry that Sophia knew about Samantha’s whereabouts. Between herself and Kendrick, she didn’t know who their target was. 

Linda was currently resting at home. She couldn’t restrain herself any longer after hearing how Samantha became Kendrick’s secretary. She called her father
